Default the arrogant bastards who are the Cheatriots

Are you freaking kidding me....

PATS STILL WANT 19-0 TRADEMARK
Posted by Mike Florio on April 22, 2008, 10:15 a.m.

Nearly three months after their 18-0 season ended in a thud, the New England Patriots are still pursuing federal trademark rights for the phrases ?19-0″ and ?19-0 The Perfect Season.?

The news comes from the folks at TheSmokingGun.com, whose prior forays into the world of football have introduced us to names like ?Ron Mexico.?

The proof of the Pats? ongoing pursuit of the perfection-related rights appears in an April 11 filing.

From a business standpoint, it makes sense. They?ve already fired up the legal lawnmower to acquire the rights in question. Why not finish the job, and then hold the property in their back pocket in the event that someone eventually makes it that extra step beyond 18-0?

From a football standpoint, however, it?s stupid. Especially if the Pats find themselves back on the brink of another Super Bowl after handling the first 18 foes that they face.

We?ve already heard folks like ESPN?s Cris Carter suggesting that the Patriots could navigate the regular season again without a loss. And that makes us wonder whether Cris Carter has reverted to his ways of the 1980s.

We?re not saying that the Pats can?t or won?t win them all. But it?s a little too early to think that they can pull off back-to-back perfect regular seasons.

Here's the article from the Smoking gun

Sure, especially after the Giants executed to perfection how to beat them: Get in Golden Boy's grill and smack him around a bit, and they can't do shit.

The only reason to trademark 19-0 is so that if it ever does happen you can make the team that does it, pay for the rights to market it. Kraft is about money first, and you know darn well he'd want a big penny for any team that actually goes all the way without a loss.

Let them have their little "dream". I have 5 rings to their 3 and the best coach in the history of the NFL with 4 of those SB wins and never a loss. I don't have a team with allegations of serious cheating and I have a team that has basically had the same uniform for 40 years and doesn't have to re-invent itself for each new generation of fans.

Maybe they're not, but I am. The same D that surrendered a record comeback in the '06 AFCCG and couldn't stop the Giants when it mattered most has gotten even weaker (and in the case of their AARP LB corps, older) over this offseason. They ain't going 16-0 again.

What will be really funny is when Kraft pays all the money to get the trademark done, and then the league either expands the season to 17 games (one neutral site/oversees games) or changes the playoff format so there are no byes. I'm betting one of those senarios will happen in the next few years. 19-0 will mean nothing---just like 18-0 meant nothing.

If I were the judge who ended up hearing this case, I'd laugh at their request and then force them to trademark the phrase "Biggest. Choke. Ever."
