the steelers haven't drafted any star LBs since kirkland and brown. actually earl holmes(1996) was pretty good, maybe not a star, but he was above average. to answer your question, in 2005 they drafted rian wallace. in 2003 they draft alonzo jackson. the steelers didn't draft any LBs in 2006 or 2004. the jury is still out on timmons and woodley. |

As I stated in my draft grades...I initially hated the Davis pick...but I have to admit, that it was partially based on my ignorance of Bruce Davis abilities. I have had the time to read up and study Davis and have to say that I am pleasantly surprised about his potential!!!!
I have a bigger problem with the Dixon pick, but I am willing to give the FO a humble thumbs up on third round pick. |

I like the pick of OLB/DE, and I don't have a problem with Davis. My question is this, the team had him rated above Avril and Wheeler?
This was just another head scratching moment in a draft filled with them (the entire draft, not our picks). Doesn't mean the guy won't be a player. |

Yeah, but Zo Jackson did something like 14 reps at 225lbs and didnt have the sack totals that Davis put up. Here is what Kiper said about the Davis Pick. Bruce Davis fits the Steelers' scheme as an OLB (he had 24.5 sacks the past two seasons). |

so when did the steelers forget how to draft and develop linebackers? i always thought this was a special skill our team had that us fans took pride in. after all, the steelers are looked at as a linebacking factory by the rest of the nfl. its been that way for years (you know that whole "culture and identity" things that many teams dont even have.
and like many factories, sometimes you produce a lemon. that doesnt mean GM gives up, goes out of business or quit producing cars.... they are the steelers and making linebackers is what they do.

I read the same thing...but that is based on his being moved to OLB for one bowl game...he played DE and will need some coaching (at least more than a week...right?) to be able to pick up the technigue needed to play the position.

OK guys. I'm a Pac-10 hater, but the guy is an undersized DE that had 24.5 sacks the past 2 seasons and is a 2-time All Pac-10 and 2 time All-american selection. Its prototype guy to convert to a 3-4 OLB. I'm beginning to like the pick.
Personally, I like his production more than Quentin Groves the past 2 seasons. Coach T obviously likes him as a 3rd down rusher "(Coach Mike Tomlin) said they'll let me stand up first and second down and play linebacker on third-and-long and passing situations, they'll let me get in my three-point stance and do what I do best," Davis said. "(Tomlin) is an amazing person, and guys love to play for him. Obviously, he loves the game and has energy and passion for the game like I do." http://www.dailybreeze.com/ci_9079200 |
