One thing I don't understand is why the heck weren't students and parents were not informed of this until now.

Anyway to the best of my knowledge, I was no where near the scene. Though I was in a gym class, I was not near the actual scene as far as I am aware. Right now I feel fortunate not to be a victim in this case. However, this hasn't be an actual hazard zone fortunately.

Hollidaysburg senior gets expelled

HOLLIDAYSBURG — A Hollidaysburg Area Senior High School student shot two of her classmates with an air pistol last month, borough police said Thursday.

Alana Marie Douglas, 18, of 104 Jones St., Hollidaysburg, fired the weapon April 11 in gym class.

She has been charged with possession of a weapon on school property, Hollidaysburg police said.

The weapon had a warning label on it that stated, ‘‘misuse or unsafe use may cause severe injuries or death.’’

The plastic pellets didn’t injure the students, Police Chief Jeffrey Ketner said.

Douglas was expelled from the Hollidaysburg Area School District, spokeswoman Linda Russo said.

Douglas could not be reached for comment Thursday because she doesn’t have a listed telephone number.

She is scheduled for an arraignment and a preliminary hearing June 17 before Magisterial District Judge Paula Aigner.

Yeah, it's a bad time nowdays. My school got a gun threat this year, and my principal was arrested a few weeks ago. Her hearing isn't until June 6, and she's been at school, so I guess she and her husband are out on bail (her husband was arrested too)?

Sounds to me like it was a soft pellet gun. A paper clip or pencil and a rubber band can do more damage.

To me it is another knee jerk reaction both by the media and schools.

I have seen a person have his eye put out with a paper clip, another shot with a sharpened pencil causing a collapsed lung. SO maybe they should also outlaw paper clips rubber bands and pencils from schools.

When are they going to make people accountable for their own actions and not try protecting us from ourselves?

No doubt a pencil or paper clip and rubberband can do some serios damage. However I find your argument a bit misleading. A gun, even just an air pellet gun should be treated with seriousness.

I've seen what a rubber band and paper clip can do, I dare say most of the incidents resulting from injury with this method is pure stupidity and carelesness.

But to me a pistol (even an air pistol) shows a more dileberate action.

You can have your eye put out with a paper clip or pencil just as you can with a pellet. It is the vilifying of guns by the media that has turned the page.

In fact a person actually can be killed easier with a pencil than with a gun if you know how.

I can only assume you also agree the one child who was suspended for drawing a picture of a gun is justified? How about the kids that were suspended because they were playing cops and robbers at recess and pointing their fingers saying bang bang that is also justified because they used a something representing a gun.

You have to aim a paper clip don't you or have you never shot one? BTW it is like shooting a sling shot, you aim it.

What the H...E.. double L are you talking about? Makes no sence to me... A gun (of any sort) has one intention, to inflict harm on another.
