With regard to Randle-El being back next year, Ed Bouchette of P-G has said Ward and Wilson (what a terrible free agent signing!) are already being paid starters' salaries and the Steelers probably do not have the inclination to come near what Randle-El will make on the open market; same reason they made no serious effort to sign Burress once they decided to retain Hines.
The NY Times has an article on how signings this off-season are going to be complicated if no new collective bargaining agreement is reached due to how many years bonuses can be prorated. Assuming Randel-El is gone, maybe they can retain Chris Hope - can't keep everyone, but that is the price of a salary cap that avoids having Dallas & Washington sign all the talent and keeps smaller market teams such as the Steelers competitive. http://www.nytimes.com/2005/11/18/sp...nfl.ready.html |
