We as fans are prone to criticize players for thier play on the field. All the while not having a clue of what they do just to step on that field and play.

These guys work thier ass off. Much, much respect for the effort that goes into the offseason regimines!

I can relate a little bit because of my training in the Marines, and yet I too am guilty of being to critical!

Barring a serious injury, Troy is headed for the HOF!

!
Sorry, but I'll keep my hat on for guys that get paid Millions of $$$ to play a game AND SHOULD be working out like this in the offseason.

Pro athletes are like actors/actresses that hire a personal trainer to get them into shape. Nobody was paying you $1mil in the Marines to run a confidence course.

I respect the work guys put in to become pro athletes and the amateur athletes that put in the work for the shot at a medal. The Troy piece impresses me because I think he may be back on the way to his pro bowl form.

I've had experience with athletes who have trained with Marv. And the system is great for those who are either learning how to use their bodies, or are already strong and need to convert to more power and force generation.

When they make general statements like "...lifting weights makes you slow" That is pure bullshit!

Heres how it works for most athletes. The first phase is Anatomical Adaptation. Simply put, it progressively prepares the neuromuscular system to react and respond to stabilization and movement, as well as prepares the connective tissue with functional movement and loads in multiplaner exercises.

Second phase is a combination, as it applies to sport, in this case football. This phase is commonly referred to as Maximum Strength Phase, self explanatory, and/or Hypertrophy, for those looking to increase muscle size as well as strength.

The third phase is Conversion to Power. Power defined as Force x Velocity. Explosive, high velocity "Power" training actually trains the Central Nervous System. Utilizing bunjy cords, and high tensile power bands that you can add to weights, to flatten the force curve and to increase the load on the eccentric movement, allows the athlete to be trained for velocity specific movements, where you can gauge and change fatigue levels. Air systems (Keiser) actually gauge power output, while performing sport specific movement. These methods are designed to produce more velocity specific power, create total body reactive power, for both acceleration & deceleration, all while protecting the athlete from injury.

Once the season begins, they are into the Maintenance phase of training, which is endurance focused for power, performed with medium to fast execution. Flexibility and functional range of motion is always emphasized, and are major factors in fiber recruitment and speed of contraction.

As in all sports, you must train according to the goal for that individual athlete. Troy is obviously naturally strong, thats exactly why this system suits his goal. If one of our linemen trained without weights and only in Marvs system, what do you think the outcome would be? They have their opinion, thats why I'm expressing mine.

jim brown was on sirius radio thismorning. he was asked how he would fare against todays competition. he said he would be just as dominant because nobody worked harder than him. he used the example that nobody was gonna outwork jerry rice or walter payton.

many of the players today dont understand all the hard work that it takes to be "the best".
