Default What's Nate's Future (Here and Beyond)?

I think we can all agree that with Sweed being drafted, the chances of Nate sticking around were greatly decreased. I'm wondering what you guys think'll become of Nate? Some of us are fans, and some of us aren't, but he was our #3 receiver, and might start this season as such.

Long term, I think we keep Sweed to progress with Santonio, but do you guys think Nate might be signed somewhere else and compete for a starting job? He is only 25, and we all knew he was a developmental player out of Tiffin.

Our team is pretty much set up with a nice mix of youthful potential and seasoned vets, but I think Nate is the player who we part ways with, but also has alot of potential. What do you guys think?

I don't see him coming back next year, but I could be wrong.

It's a hard one to say. Ben seems to like throwing to him, and we all know his influence in those matters.

For the very fact he was one of our projects, I think we should keep and enjoy the hard work. But he's also young and tall and some other teams might have an interest in him.

This one is hard to call for me.

Right now the receiving corps is great, but in 2-3 years hines may retire, and if we lose both hines and nate that would be a huge blow, and the team may need to draft another receiver in the 1st day while that pick could be used to upgrade the lines.

so imo he should be given a fair contract next season depending on how he does this year, which I think he'll be good after his late season performance in 07.

and the other receivers in the roster? those "giants" that have yet to show something on the field, unlike nate, I hope they show something in case nate doesn't come back. but I'm not holding my breath

If he loses the #3 receiver role to Sweed this year, he's definatly gone after this season.

I can see any of the other teams in the division picking him up to at least pick his brain.

Um, why would he go anywhere else? It's not like we'll only keep 3 WR's...if he loses the job to Sweed, he can still have a place on this team. We do run 4 wide sets sometimes, and we also need depth at the position. I remember we kept Will Blackwell around for years as a like #5 WR.

Yeah i see him gone pretty soon but reckon he will find a home where they need some WR depth.

i hope he resigns w/ us honestly.. he'll be a good number 4 wr 4 us and when the time does come 4 hines to retire we will still have 3 good wr's rather than just 2...

I think that he will resign with us. As stated before, Hines is in the final years of his career and Nate can stick around and bethe number three guy once Ward retires(that is if he loses it to Sweed in the first place).

He knows the playbook and is a fairly decent receiver. I like him better than Willie Reid and Dallas Baker. Reid has just not lived up to his hype and seems to be a detriment to our team. Maybe I should have more faith in him, but I shudder any time he catches the ball as he tends to fumble it after the catch a lot. And Baker has been hanging around for a few years and still hasn't made it past the practice squad. We need enough WRs for some depth so I think Nate will still be here although he may not play much. Perhaps he can play some STs for us as well.
