These nuggets from Burress hyping his book

You talk about oversleeping and missing a pre-draft workout with Bill Cowher after he had flown out to see you. How did you convince him to still draft you?

Burress: He's the coolest coach I've ever had. I can just sit down and be flat-out honest with him. There were a few times I'd come in to work late and he'd ask me, "What happened?" and I'm like, "To tell you the truth, coach, I just overslept. I'm tired." So he would just say, "OK, kid, you owe me a good practice." That was the type of person that he was. He was always supportive in everything that I did. He was more of a friend than a teacher or a coach, but he was all those things at the same time. I was always able to sit down with him and look him face-to-face and be honest with him. We ended up with a relationship I still hold today. It was hard to leave him and the Steelers but I had to do what was best for me and my career. He's a great friend and he was one of the first people that called me after the NFC championship game and told me to enjoy the next two weeks -- and he called me the day after the Super Bowl and congratulated me. That really shows you the type of guy he is.

SI: How would you compare that relationship to the one you have now with Tom Coughlin?

Burress: Our relationship is more of a working relationship. We've learned how to coexist, so to speak, ...

Think Tomlin would tell Plax he just owes him a good practice if Plax said he overslept and was "tired"?

Then there is this

In the book, you also talked about the rumors of Kordell Stewart being gay, and how that may have affected his performance and relationship with teammates. Do you think he struggled because of the rumors, and was it really that big of a topic?

Burress: No, it wasn't really talked about. When things like that do come out, it's never really talked about. It goes on more on the outside, but I know it must have been hard on Kordell. I never called him any names, I don't even know if he's gay but I do think it's one the reasons why he never became the player he could be. I think it was hard on him mentally.

Nice to read that on the rumors of Kordell's sexual orientation Plax was such a great teammate that he never called Kordell any names - and here I thought Kordell's problems were due to poor throwing mechanics and an inability to read defenses

Great catch, ATL Dan….

Wifey and I were just watching NFL access and saw that he was trying to get a new contract. I think its great that he was able to do Namath one better by ALMOST guaranteeing the score of the big show and then making the game winner.

When Plex was in the Burgh he got his own share of bad ink as well and I think some of the things he said got taken out of context for sure.

I agree, but I also remember that about midway through his first or second year he hurt his hand and kept it hidden. It seems like there was a broken bone or something that he didn’t tell any one about.

The night he had the break through game against the Titans was a great one for me. I cant remember whether it was a Sunday or a Monday, but after that he seemed to get into a groove.

His catching mechanics were probably much better.

I respected Plex while he was wearing the black and gold when he was playing up to or above his potential, but he didn't hide it too well when he dogged it, which used to torque me off. I hated his me-first attitude and quite honestly, was happy (and still am) when he left.

The being said, however, I gotta give the guy props for the very positive comments he made with regard to the franchise and particularly, Coach Cowher.

More Plax from Peter King's MMQB column

In the 36th-floor midtown Manhattan studio of Sirius Satellite Radio -- where I work a day or two a week doing "The Morning Drive'' with Bob Papa and Randy Cross -- sits a big naugahyde easy chair with a Patriots logo, with their Super Bowl titles sewn in. Earlier this month, Plaxico Burress of the Giants was an in-studio guest. As he walked out of the studio, he looked over at the chair.

"Can I sign something?'' Burress said to Eric Fenton, producer of the show.

"Sure,'' Fenton said.

"Got a Sharpie?'' Burress asked.

Fenton handed him one, and, over the Patriots' Elvis logo, Burress signed his name, his number (17), and "XLII Champs!''

As cool as can be, Burress walked out of the studio.

"Looks pretty good,'' he said on his way out the door.
