a 6' 4" reciever who runs a 4.4 in the 40 who wants to play like the most physical reciever in the NFL, that is scary. Ward being 6' and running a 4.6 out of Georgia is amazing. im so excited.

"I'm trying to pick up some of (Ward's) trademarks," Sweed said. "That nastiness, that toughness to go in there and knock those safeties back."
Ratbirds, WATCH OUT! Bart, Ray and Ed are gonna be flattened all on one play.

That quote was worth the entire article. It's music to my ears. Steelers recievers have (and will) set a precedent for playing the position physically and tough. Enough of TO and Randy Moss.

Perhaps Sweed will get LASIK surgery or something down the road. Didn't a rookie WR do that last year? I think it was Dwayne Bowe or somebody.

I guess my question is, if he's gonna play like Ward, will his contacts stay in?

Pittsburgh has a crowded receiving corps. Starters Hines Ward and Santonio Holmes and reigning No. 3 wideout Nate Washington are ahead of Sweed on the depth chart and seven others after the Steelers signed Eddie Drummond on Thursday.
Nice "problem" to have imo. If our line gels, '08 could be a great year offensively.

I would give Sweed a little time to adjust to life with improved vision.

Depending on how long he has had the astigmatism he will go through an undefined period of adjustment. Once he has become comfortable with the new visual perspective you may actually see him become a better receiver.

Quote:
Coaches saw Sweed squinting during video sessions and noticed he would catch the ball on only certain sides.
This may explain in some of training camp threads why he looked a little unsure going over the middle but looked great on the long balls.

I for one will now be a whole lot more patient with Limas now that I know this information.

I'm so looking forward to seeing this highly motivated and energetic young man at camp and better yet - on the field making some great plays! Now that his astigmatism has been corrected, the opportunities for success are endless for Sweed. I love this kid- he's got the Steelers toughness and 'tude nailed down and he's only been in TC for a couple of days!

Kudos to the Steelers coaches for picking up on Sweed's vision problems.

Saw it. Pretty sure it was Grant Mason.

Got to love the perks of working for an ad agency: Field-level V.I.P. passes to camp!

I gotta tell you, I've drunk the kool-aid on both our top draft picks. The interviews I've seen with them have been very impressive. And the word out of camp has been very positive.
They were interviewed together for the NFL network at some rookie event and they said all the right things! Sweed is a country boy (NFL network showed a pic of him on a horse--and he likes to hunt and fish etc) so he gets extra points from me for that!
