Spanish Olympic Basketball Team in Racist Ad

Spain's Olympic basketball team posed for an advertisement prior to the Games which appears to show all its players slanting their eyes, a move that could offend its Olympic hosts in Beijing. The ads, for a Spanish courier company, appeared in the Spanish-language newspaper La Marca.

Too sensitive. Too PC. Ease up...it's no biggie.

We have become a people who are paralyzed by our own sensitivity...it actually runs counter to our own nature.

Yup...just a bunch of kids goofing around. The team, their handlers, the Spanish Olympic committee, the courier company, the photographers and the paper that ran it all had to give the go ahead because they are complicit and culpable for their own actions. That's an awful lot of filters to run this through without someone tossing up a red flag.

In addition, this was the response from the paper that published the ad:

"It turns out that in the photo shoot for the submission of our team, one of our sponsors asked us to possess and that, as a 'wink' to our participation in Beijing, did so with an expression in Eastern eyes. We felt something appropriate and that would always be interpreted as an affectionate gesture, "says Calderon.

"Whoever wants to interpret something different, totally confused."

Seems pretty cut and dried to me...we are just so attuned to seeing the boogeyman everywhere that we look, we've totally lost our sense of humor.
