Just alittle food for thought, but normally if u shut a team down in the running game, and make them 1 dimensional, u can pin ur ears back and come after the QB..and pressure breeds turnovers and mistakes.
Thats a tall task, to stop Edgerrin James, this much is obvious..and just becuz you do, Peyton can burn the best in the business w/ his arm.. so who do u focus on. The Steelers always try to stop the run first and dictate what they want the offense to do, so it will be interesting to see how this plays out. |

Stopping Edge comes first in my books... then work on the QB, even if it's Manning.
Cause we're not gonna stop the pass, just slow it down. |

Even if the Steelers stop the running game, the Edge getting yards on screen passes really worries me. Pittsburgh's non-stop blitzing really opens up that part of an offense and can be just as effective as a running game. Just look at what the Pats have done against the Steelers consistently.

I feel that the best way to beat most teams is to take away the running option, D is alot easier one you have halved the oppositions playbook.
There is two ways of doing this. 1. Stop The Edge repeatedly - which will mean D-Line penetration and lots of it - especially on the stretch play to the left which the Colts favor strongly. 2. Score early on their D - the Colts, and Manning in particular, will drop the running game like a hot potato if they fall into a 10-13 point deficit. As far as preventing Manning from passing Pittsburgh to death you need a combination of two things. 1. Pressure on the QB - Manning was pressured exactly once in this years game against the Patriots and he responded by throwing the ball up for grabs for an interception. 2. Late movement in the defensive backfield - Manning makes all his playcalls after analysing what the D is showing him before the snap - the Patriots and the Crennel Browns both used this option with much success. The Patriots were unable to utilise this method this year due to the fact that any movement in the backfield prior to the snap would have confused an already clueless secondary more than Manning! This is the game that Pittsburgh will be judged on - hopefully Ben will be at 100% and able to scramble to avoid the pass rush (which is over-rated in my opinion) Good Luck Steelers NM

They've been great for a while now, three Super Bowls' worth of great. But only this season have the New England Patriots become The Show, the must-see team of stars, pretty boys and reformed bad boys. Suddenly, the Patriots are not simply great; they're compelling, fascinating, appearing to be almighty and a touch lawless. The Patriots didn't bother with swagger to start this NFL season; they went straight to defiant. Either you're one of them or you're about to get crushed. |

Well anytime you make a team 1 demensional your ahead...usually !
But with the colts and the no chin manning, when they try to keep the D on the field with his quick play calling so they match-up better,I think thats going to be a key for us.We need to have the personnell ready to get on and off. They know we shuffel alot in and out..we'll have to be ready.Sometimes even when you are ready mannning snap's the ball on you for a flag. One thing I noticed watching the bungles/colts game is that manning when feeling the pressure gets pretty uncomfortable back there. He's seems to be so use to having his time and way that when feeling any pressure....he's uncomfortable!!

If you watched manning last week, he changed the play or atleast appeared to make changes before almost every single snap. He would walk up the line, change the play repeatedly. The guy is just amazing when it comes to reading defenses and getting the right play for the oncoming attack.
He was burnt a few times, and will occasionally throw the pick as 'past mentioned..so its imperative to get in his face. |

Our best defense will have to be our offense, namely our running game. Run the ball, control the clock and keep Edge and Manning off the field.

When Manning goes under center he really is not given any set of plays, Tom Moore ( OC) actually gives him an idea of how they want the game to go. Cincy in the first half focused exclusively on stopping James which is why you saw all those points. Manning does get flustered when we get behind because he feels he needs to shoulder the whole team. He has more confidence in his d this year but he still can be had.
I for one am excited to see how this plays out I am at the Dome so it is going to be a great game. Here is to no injuries

Yeah +1 to the no injuries too..
although w/ cincy, they are at the bottom of the league at stopping the run so they had commit more men and plays to that so it left them wide open in the passing game even with their decent secondary.. we can usually stop the run w/ our front 7 and our combination of blitzes so its gonna be interesting. |

well if you watched the game I think the Cincy secondary believed their own press, too many times grabbing for the ball instead of tackling the WR.
I agree you guys are much better and will get better pressure, this year our OL has not been as solid the pocket is not as clean as in years past. athough Peyton does feel the pressure and will just dump off. I am more worried about your running game Hopefully TD has a plan in mind and we execute I hate MNF , hate having to wait an extra day
