Default Dealing with a Wireless company

Okay....my cell-phone died a cruel death, so I go to a "certain" wireless carrier's website to look at their inventory of phones.

I called the carrier and talked with a "customer service representative" and he talked me into getting a specific model with MP3 capabilities. I did tell him that the web-site did not show that the phone played music but he assured me that it did.

I ordered the phone which came to my house the next day. After opening the box...I see what can only be described as a device that should have been delivered with 6 Mcnuggets and an order of fries. This happy-meal equivalent of a cellphone had few functions..and most definitely did NOT have an MP3 player. The only cool function was a speed dial capability that let me talk directly to the Hamburglar and Mayor McCheese.

yes....a McCellphone.

So the next day, I am back on the internet website and back on the line with a "customer service representative". The conversation went something like this.
(I will refer to this Independant Dealer In On-line Trash by the acronym I.D.I.O.T.)

Idiot: How can I help you
LLT: yes, I purchased a phone with a two year contract and was told that the phone had an MP3 player...upon receipt of the phone it most certainly does not play music. I would like to trade this phone in for a different model.

Idiot: Okay, we can do that..do you know what model you would want.
LLT: Yes...I would like the (-------)

Idiot: Okay, we can send that phone to you overnight and we will place the $229.00 onto your phone bill.
LLT: $229.00??? For what???

Idiot: Well for the new phone.
LLT: No ma'am.....I want to TRADE this phone for a different phone.

Idiot: But you already bought the first phone.
LLT: I am aware of that..the phone does not have the features that I was promised. I want your company to make it right and trade this phone in for a different phone.

Idiot: One second (placed on hold for 5 minutes)

Idiot: Okay sir, what I can do is trade that phone in for the phone you want. You will only be charged for the difference in price between the phones.
LLT: Why is that? I am looking on-line and both phones show to be free with a 2 year contract?

Idiot: Yes sir, but they are not the same price.
LLT: Why does that matter if they are both FREE with a two year contract?

Idiot: That is the best I can do.
LLT: I tell you what..how about I just talk with your supervisor.

Idiot: one second (place on hold for 5 minutes)

Idiot: Okay sir, here is what I can do. Send us the phone you now have and upon our recieving that phone we will send you the phone you want.
LLT: UH....no. Why should I be without a phone for a week because of your mistake...send me the phone and I will be happy to send this phone back in the same box.

Idiot: We cant do that.
LLT: Just let me talk with your supervisor please.

Idiot: My supervisor will just tell you the same thing, thats the best we can do.
LLT: Okay...well then, since I didnt get the functions promised when I agreed to your contract..how about you just cancel the contract altogether and I will find a different carrier?

Idiot: We can do that...but you will be charged for early termination of the contract.
LLT: No I wont...YOU broke the contract by not providing the product promised.

Idiot : Well, actually you recieved the phone you asked for regardless of its functions so you would be charged.
LLT: Well...actually...I work for a police department and that is baloney....I tell you what...I'm pretty much done with you...put me on hold...get your supervisor... do not come back and talk to me. Thank you for trying, but I dont want to hear your voice anymore...I will hold.

Well her supervisor came on the line...and told me that he would send the phone I wanted and I could return the McCellphone in the same box.

I love "customer service".

Sucks....and it's the same with the cable companies, satellite companies, computer companies...etc.

Phone companies suck! Customer service can be a real pain in the rear.

Sprint, right? They topped the list in '07 for worst customer service in the history of mankind (or something like that).

That is the best part right there.

Reading this, I couldn't help but feel deja vu (all over again).
