Giants Have Fined Plax 40-50 times

Jay Glazer from FOX is reporting that Burress has been fined 40 to 50 times by the Giants.

The Giants' suspension of their star wide receiver Plaxico Burress may have seemed excessive to some, but it turns out the latest punishment is only the latest in an incredibly long line of fines the Giants' wideout has accumulated.

FOX Sports has learned that during his tenure with the Giants, Burress has been fined by the team between 40 and 50 times, a stunning number considering he's played just 50 games with the Big Blue.

"He's been fined for missing treatment, meetings, showing up late ... there's probably been 10 times this year alone," said one source.

According to several team sources, Burress has not seemed overly affected by being hit in the wallet this often. What did affect him, however, was the Giants preventing Burress from playing in the next game.

Also, the player's union was preparing to file a grievance based on the Giants' lack of 'progressive discipline' - i.e., more warnings, letters, etc. Wouldn't 40 to 50 fines be considered enough of a warning?

We knew that we had not heard the end of the Giants’ disciplining of Plaxico Burress for his failure to come to meetings last Monday and further failure to inform the team of his whereabouts. We also knew that this episode would not end without the public surfacing of Drew Rosenhaus. Although the Giants checked in with the NFL Management Council before levying a two-game suspension and fine, they knew they would ultimately accept a lesser punishment while making a statement in the locker room about discipline.

A settlement has been reached where Burress will still be banished from the Giants’ facility for two weeks, including a game next weekend against the Seahawks, but is only hit with half the fine. Instead of the 2/17th of his 2M salary being docked from his check – $235,200 – that amount is now 1/17th, or $117,600. Drew and Plaxico were willing to take the hit of not playing in the game as long as they could get back $117,600 (and Drew gets back his percentage of that amount as well). The union was preparing a grievance dealing with the Giants lack of “progressive discipline” meaning there should have been more warnings, letters, and the like, but it’s not clear where that would have gone. From the Giants’ view, Burress missing that game is the real message they wanted to send.

Seems like a long time ago when Plax wore the black and gold. But the memory of him I allways have is his rookie year when he jumped up and spiked the ball without being downed by contact...... smooth move exlax...

Someone needs to kick him in the ass. He is a professional and many young people look up to him. Plax is undisciplined and im so happy the Steelers do not have him. We have no room for trouble makers.

Yeah we really dont! Which is another reason why I rather the Steelers NOT sign Davenport!

are you referring to the incident with his son? because he was found non guilty of that
