No big deal to most everybody, but a pretty big deal for me since I've been following Akron football my whole life. Winner gets a spot in what most teams would consider a pretty crappy Motor City Bowl Game(probable opponent Minnesota), but it's HUGE for a struggling Akron program trying to turn the corner. Sadly, the couple thousand fans who make the trip to Ford Field tonight aren't going to make much of a showing for a University with almost 30,000 students.
Anyway, it's worth checking out to see Domenik Hixon play, and Northern Illinois gave Michigan all they could handle earlier this year, so there's going to be some nice mid-major talent on the field tonight. The first meeting was a 48-42 OT win for Akron, so it could be a pretty entertaining football game too. |

Good luck Suit...
I will be watching. I live near Dayton Ohio, and MAC football is pretty big in the Miami Valley. I love it... Most of the areas best high school football players go to MAC schools, and I always defend the MAC when fans of larger schools bash their football programs. The MAC plays good football... a little different brand because many of the players are not as athletically gifted as those that go to the NCAA's elite programs. These kids play hard, and many of them feel they have something to prove because they were turned down by the Ohio State's, and the Michigan's of college football. A lot of these guys really turn into great football players after their stay at a MAC university because they got an opportunity to play, rather than sit the bench at a "big time" program. A Motorcity Bowl appearance, and a conference championship could really help recruiting at Akron...

Thanks...
The MAC, well, actually, all 1-A football was helped when the NCAA lowered the amount of football scholarships...it created a bit more parity, which is always nice. Plus, with MAC teams getting more TV exposure, it makes recruiting easier. A coach can point to all the QB's in the MAC and state that it's better to start 3 years at a MAC school, play on ESPN 2 a couple times a year, and break records than to sit for 3 years and MAYBE play for 2 at a big 10 school, since you never know if another, bigger blue chipper will be recruited in your So. year... |

I think it ended 31 to 30 I could be mistaken but it was a hell of a game until I fell asleep during the 4th and wake up watching the gorgeous pass for the TD.
