Default Who am I?

Who Am I?

I am under 45 years old,
I love the outdoors,
I hunt,
I am a Republican reformer,
I have taken on the Republican Party establishment,
I have many children,
I have a spot on the national ticket as vice president with less
than two years in the governor's office.

you forgot one-

immediately assumed presidency through death of his boss.
teddy roosevelt.

i just got back from my stay at the Menger Hotel (next door to the Alamo) in San Antonio.

lots of neat artifacts, stories, and articles about teddy there.

word is he used to ride his horse right into the bar (which was unfortunately closed to renovations) to order a drink.

cool anecdote aside, i am CERTAIN youre not trying to compare newscaster sarah palin to theodore freaking roosevelt.

....please tell me youre not.

....before i LMAO!

first comparissons to reagan and clinton and NOW teddy roosevelt?

what a disgrace. poor dude is rolling over in his grave. whatever helps the GOP to get through this disaster though....

by the way, the saying is "speak softly and carry a big stick."

not "speak softly and carry pig lipstick".

LOL,

Roosevelt came from a family that was steeped in politics; his father took him to see Lincoln's inauguration, and was active in the local party politics, declining an opportunity to run for mayor of New York City. "Teedy" traveled the world twice before he was 18, was an autodidact who went to Harvard and graduated both Phi Beta Kappa and magna cum laude, and he read constantly his entire life, (both books AND newspapers, but probably not ALL newspapers)... he also wrote a number of books on many subjects (he wrote his first book at 19, a volume of ornithology). He was a NY state assemblyman from 1881 to 1888, and played a part in the RNC of 1884. He served as US Civil Service Commissioner for 8 years, under both the Republican Harrison and the Democrat Cleveland. [edited to add: He was the Chief of Police of New York City, then] he served as the president of the Board of New York Police Commissioners, and then served as the assistant Secretary of the Navy. He resigned that post to become a Lieutenant Colonel of the First Volunteer Cavalry (the Rough Riders), distinguishing himself in battle during the Spanish-American War.

THEN he was elected Governor of New York, and THEN he was nominated for the Vice Presidency.

Your turn.

Gotta agree with you there....even IF Palin ever became president...Clinton would still be the only non-sport playing/non military wuss since Truman who ever sat in the oval office.

...no comparison.

Teddy Roosevelt was also a HARDCORE born again Christian.

But he was much more level-headed and reconciliatory than his contemporaries...and much more genuine in his faith than some of his other contemporaries.

Interestingly enough, Abe Lincoln was a secularist, but Christians try really hard to take a few speeches and letters of his to try and bring him into the fold. After all, who would you rather have on your resume? Lincoln or Carter?

A great book on the early life of TR, up until his becoming NY Police Commissioner: Mornings on Horseback, by David McCullough (1776, John Adams, etc). I recommend it as highly as I did A Terrible Glory elsewhere. But mind you, A Terrible Glory is more exciting, simply because it is about battle.
