Just wondering, what is the procedure to relieve a commissioner of his duties?? Would it be the ownership collectively voting to let him go?
This whole idea of fines is making a mockery of the NFL. All I read is Jared Allen-fined, Lamarr Woodley-Fined, Justin Tuck-Fined-appeals-reviewed-fine rescinded. Its a joke and I would rather hear about players and game matchups instead of post game penalties. |

hmmmm....
![]() thats a damn good question. i bet its more difficult to fire him than it is to have the president of the US impeached. after all the 32 nfl teams are all part of the LEAGUE and a move like this would have to come at the approval of the league commisioner, i would guess. he is under contract (ironic that dan rooney has already lobbied for him to get an extension). he is a lawer (as is art II) so i guess it would ultimately come down to a huge legal mess nobody wants to get involved in. im thinking he really couldnt be "fired". only be shamed into resigning or playing out his contract and it not being resigned.

IMO he has been put into this position. Some big name players have been hurt the last few years and I think the owners of those teams has put pressure on the commish to get it under control. Owners don't want high dollar players going down with season ending injuries. I could be wrong, but I don't think the commish has done this all on his own. If you've noticed not alot of owners are speaking about this, only players.

You would think it's possible to have him removed from office. He's chosen by the owners, therefore I would assume there is a way for the owners to get a commish out of he ended up not being what they thought.
I would think it would take a majority vote to have him "impeached" where a hearing would take place in front of an unbiased arbitrator who would decide of the commish stays in office or leaves. The reason I think it would be majority vote is because you can't get a 100% vote if the commish is favoring a team or a few teams. As for Agustashark's thoughts, major players have been getting hurt for years. Tags was in charge when Mike Vick broke his leg. I feel that owners understand that this is a violent sport and injuries happen. I doubt the owners like the excessive penalties and the fines their players have to pay because it can come back to be bad if a defensive player changes his style of play. I think it's more that owners are afraid to speak out because they don't want to piss off Goodell. They don't want to be fined or even worse, get banned from the league like George Steinbrenner was in baseball.

I just don't trust Goodell. If it becomes enough of an issure that his actions start to cost the owners where it really counts.......we won't have to figure out how to fire him.
All we can do.....is continue to call for his impeachment. Start a petition, something along those lines. If the sqawking from the fans gets loud enough, the owners will get rid of him. |

So you think that an owner would be more upset about a player being fined then losing a top tier player for the year? Sorry but that does not make much sense to me. A Owner would not get fined for picking up the phone to express his concerns to the commish, he (commish) works for them. If Al Davis was not banned then myfriend it would take a hell of alot for a owner to be banned. You also kinda made my point. Injuries like the Vick one has paved the way for these stupid fines, just like the roy williams "horse tackle". It's football not tiddely winks.

I have an idea, but we need to keep it on the DL.
It involves Pac Man, a pile of coke, a couple guns, a few strippers, Guantanamo Bay, Dick Cheney, a fake passport and other ID's, a couple million in unmarked cash and a fast boat. Who's in?
