Desperately Needing Your Prayers

Once again, my dear friends, I must ask for your most fervent prayers.

Next Wednesday, November 19, 2008, I must again go into the hospital for surgery. This surgery is a very serious procedure and involves the surgeons having to cut across the top of my head and remove the titanium mesh that was implanted into my forehead (which has recently become infected) during my second cancer surgery in 2001. My surgeons are excellent and very caring individuals and I'm sure they will do the best job possible, but I must admit, I am just absolutely terrified. I had a similar surgery during that second cancer surgery and I am trying so hard to reach within me and pull out that inner strength I know is there. After this surgery, I will have to wait 60-90 days and have a second similar surgery to implant new titanium mesh. What is so miraculous about the mesh is that the surgeons do such a remarkable job that no one can tell that I have it in there! I will be swollen for several weeks and most likely in a great deal of pain post-op and probably have racoon eyes again, but I can deal with that. I will have to be on a ventilator for 24 hours post-op, which is standard protocol for any complicated surgery involving the head and brain areas, and anyone who has ever had that unfortunate experience can tell you that it is very uncomfortable and extremely unpleasant.

I am not only asking for your thoughts and prayers, but also some much needed encouragement and some laughs before I go into the hospital next week. With complete honesty and from my heart, I say to all of you that I truly love you like family and I am going to fight with everything I have to get through this and get back here ASAP, as I enjoy this forum and all of you so much! I am expected to be in the hospital for anywhere from 3-6 days and I ask that you all give Gary your utmost cooperation while I am out of commission. He works very hard, as I do, to do the best job he can around here and gives so much of his time and energy to making sure this board runs as smoothly as possible so that everyone - whether a Steelers fan or fan from another team - can totally enjoy their SF experience! In other words - y'all be good or I'll be kicking some hineys when I get back home!
