Default First mock draft

just got down doing one of many mock drafts this year with 32 fans from other teams and this was my picks for the steelers.

1st round:

22. Pittsburgh Steelers - LenDale White, RB, USC

Height / Weight:
6-2 / 23
Why- With bettis at 34 years old and duce unable to stay healthy we need a power back and White falls to us in the 1st and is just what we need a power runner with size and speed , also he has delt with sharing the load like the Steelers love to do which helps out in the long run.

2nd Round:

44. Pittsburgh Steelers - Mike DeGory, C, Florida

Height / Weight:
6-6, 296

Why- Jeff hartings is 34 as well and we need to groom a talent to fit our system which makes Degory a greta pick in the 2nd. Even if for soem chance hartings plays great and wants to stay degory can play G which makes him even more a great fit.

Looking good to me :) I thought I was the only person who thought the Steelers would take a Center on the first day, not a DE :P

I wouldnt see us taking a center in the first round unless they really think Okobi cannot handle the job!

I like that first round pick, he's a bruiser and team player.

Im not sure Cowher would take a RB in the first round though, they like value in the later rounds w/ RB's cuz drafts are usually stacked w/ them.

i would have no problem taking Lendale in the first round, we dont have any GLARING holes, just small holes, like at WR, C, DE, etc, and depth problems. I have a feeling though if Willie really is our guy, we sign a FA RB, a young veteran..

I just Googled NFL Draft 2006 to see what people were drafting us with first round, and this is what I saw. Listed by likelyhood;

Lendale White, Laurence Maroney RB - Just like JerseySTEEL said, the Steelers need a new powerback and Lendale looks to be it. fftoolbox.com has us taking Maroney, mainly because they are ranking us higher in the draft, and for the same reasons we would take Lendale

Nick Mangold C - about.football.com has us taking this Center, but if we look to be one of the few teams looking for a Center in '06, why not wait till Round 2?

Darnell Bing S - If McFadden and Colclough start eventually, that would make our secondary all 1 & 2 round picks, and we would have one of the best, but more likely a 2-4 pick.

Hank Baskett, Martin Nance WR - Both over 6'3 and over 200 pounds, A deep threat would be nice for the Steelers, but there are always good WR's in the draft, even down to the Undrafteds

Max Jean-Gilles G - NFLdraftcountdown.com has us taking him due to Kendall's health, but by the end of the year, G won't be much of a concern

Rodrique Wright DT - fantasyfootballjungle.com has us taking him to help our "mediocre D-line." They also had the Broncos taking a QB first round, due to how bad Plummer is, so don't pay much attention to this.

I have been trying to keep an eye on Martin Nance. He and Ben were teammates at Miami of Ohio. The one game I saw him play he did very well. Would be interesting to see him here.
