Glad to see Ben up and running

PITTSBURGH — Now that Ben Roethlisberger practices on a regular basis, he’s throwing the ball much better. And finally, he’s starting to run with it, too.

After taking part in every practice the past two week, the Steelers’ quarterback has been able to get himself out of a mid-season rut. After posting three straight passer ratings of below 60.0 when he was held out of several practices, he’s now strung together two straight passer ratings of 94.2 or higher.

What was especially noteworthy about Roethlisberger’s performance in Thursday’s 27-10 win over the Cincinnati Bengals was that he passed for a touchdown and also ran for a score. That’s the first time he’s done that since a 24-10 win over the Bengals at Heinz Field last December.

Roethlisberger’s TD toss, a 3-yarder to tight end Heath Miller in the second quarter, tied the score 7-7.

His TD run was an 8-yard scramble after a third-and-3 pass call in the fourth quarter. It was his longest run since a 17-yarder in the Sept. 7 season opener.

What was significant about the TD run was that Roethlisberger has been reluctant to run this year due to a shoulder injury that bothered him most of the season. He’s on pace for the fewest rushing attempts of his career.

But now that his ailing shoulder has gotten better, he’s throwing with authority, and also running without fear.

“It just felt good to score,” Roethlisberger said. “The last thing I wanted to do was throw a pick, so I said to myself I’m going to pull it down and even if we get a field goal, that’s still points on the board. Then the hole opened up and I found a way to get it in.”

Earlier in the game, Roethlisberger picked up a first down by scrambling for 6 yards on a third-and-4 call.

“I like the way we are playing,” Roethlisberger of an offense that’s racked up 410 and 364 yards the last two games. “We have gone through our kind of mid-season struggles and we still have found ways to win.

“We’ve done a good job of coming out and moving the ball up and down the field. We possessed the ball for a lot of minutes (for the second straight game). It feels good and I think we’re moving in the right direction.”

It’s Roethlisberger’s improved play which has helped the offense most.

And we missed a golden opportunity at a pick-six in the Colts game and another in the Bengals game. It's a wash.

Almost had two picks = DID NOT HAVE TWO PICKS

Don't nitpick. He had no INTS for two games in a row. Good stuff Ben.

Big Ben never left. He's always been there in spirit. I'll never forget his one armed cheerleader impersonation in the second half of the 'skins game.

"Almost" only counts in tossing horseshoes and hand grenades. The fact is that he didn't throw them. Now if you want to talk about the decision to throw those passes, then that's a different story altogether.
