Default Trai Essex

Whenever we drafted him, he was the only one drafted that had a ? on him. He's done pretty decent up against some of the best Defensive Ends in the League, but with Marvel, a Pro-Bowl tackle, in his position, and a first year starter at Right Tackle, do you think there's any chance of him starting anytime soon? I mean the guy contained Alex Brown and Dwight Freeny pretty well, and he's only played in about 4 NFL games. I wonder what the drafting scouts saw that we didnt...

When Marvel is healthy, Marvel will be back as the Steelers LT. Smith is just an awesome LT for us and has been stellar for the most part. Essex has gotten better every week and is progressing nicely and has gotten alot of much needed experience that we need for depth on our OL.

His run blocking was a ? on him when he was drafted..he needs to improve on that still but he's getting better every week.

Kendall had 3 that game, Essex had 2, that's why we were calling for Chris to come in.

Essex has really been playing a lot better since his first time seeing action. I don't know if he can ever be a "bookend" tackle at this level, but he is starting to make me a believer. I hope he continues to improve, and prove to some of the people that said he was drafted too early that they were wrong.

i've liked what i've seen out of him, sure he messes up in some clutch moments but he is a rookie and he was going agaisnt freeny i'd be jumpy too, and his first start was against a very good d. and then he did pretty damn good today so i'm glad he's getting this experince cause come next year we gonna have some very good depth

He's playing at an extremely high level for a rookie who had strength and conditioning questions surrounding him. I think he tutors under Marvel until Smith's contract is up, and we have ourselves a quality starting LT. Remember, the Steelers saw something in him that nobody else saw, and that was his quickness and footwork. The rest can be taught...

Good points Suit...

It's funny... just a few games after Ben was running for his life, and I blamed the two young tackles for the loss... I am starting to think if they continue to improve, we may have our tackle position set for years. The NFL is such a "what have you done for me lately" kinda league... people's opinions of players and teams change so much from week to week.
