Default VOTE for Coach T - Motorola Coach of the Week

I didn't know that he had been nominated until it was mentioned on NFLN tonight. C'mon, SteelersFever Nation - he won in Weeks 5 & 9 - let's do it again!

we should really have a "player of the week" sticky thread count.

i believe 1 steeler has won it for every win. sometimes 2. i think it was parker and woodley in week 1. and tomlin plus ben vs jax.

im sure harrison and tomlin win it again this week. its all for nothing but its nice to get the recognition.

Just curious-who has final say in Pitt's FO now? Is the guy that worked with Cowher, Kevin Colbert(sp), still there?

yes.

as with cowher, day to day decisions come down to tomlin. when it comes down to getting players, the coach, gm, and owner each essentially share 1/3 of the vote.

ultimately, hardly anyone has been around pro football longer than dan rooney. im pretty sure he wouldve never even hired a coach who woulda thought about replacing dick lebeau.

you could say coach and gm share weight and the owner acts as the tie breaker.

Interesting...I myself am not familar with the mechanics of what goes on in the FO, but the way you describe things, it's making alot more sense. So basically, even thought the good owners stay out of the way(unlike Al Davis), if there's a disagreement b/w the coach and the GM, then this is where the owner(rooney) comes in to pretty much settle things.

Here's another example, if anything, of even GMs getting too much of the credit(alot like how QBs do after wins)...Jerry Reece, the Giants GM, is one example...even though Tom Coughlin and Mara/Tisch has say so too.

exactly. there was a nice interview with rooney before tomlins 1st draft as the steelers head coach asking about draft decisions and dynamics, and whether anything would change with a rookie head coach in the room.

the answer was, all the drafts with cowher/colbert/rooneys always went smoothly because they were able to civilly discuss and reach a mutual agreement and that was exactly the same way it would work with the rookie tomlin.

there has been speculation that lawrence timmons was "tomlins guy" as his 1st draft pick ever. if that is the case, i'd say it was a good job of trusting tomlins judgement by colbert, and rooney. after all, drafting another LB in the 2nd round has certainly paid off.

having worked with the likes of chuck noll, bill cowher, art rooney jr (his brother), and kevin colbert, dan knows he dont need to micro-manage when he's got the right guy, but when it comes down to a decision to give big bucks to either plaxico burress or hines ward, i know he is the one who has the final say.

first and foremost, the steelers have a "way" and image to try and uphold.

Even despite having a reputation as a meddling owner, one of Jerry's big weaknesses is that he tends to micro-manage the drafts and other player personnel too much. Since Parcells has come and handed the reigns over to Wade, he's actually gotten a bit better(i.e. he trusted Jason Garrett's suggestion on drafting Felix Jones and Martellus Bennett).

I really like his passion and energy he brings to the table, but if anything, he needs to hire a GM and back away just a bit(even Jimmy J has talked about this numerous times), b/c there are times where he does get a bit too cute.
