Default a great debate...but lopsided.

i was having a debate the other day with a "friend" of mine. i say "friend" because he is a Dallas Cowboys fan and i don't want people to think i am associated with him. haha! BUT... we were discussing a rather crucial topic that would be severly biased in this forum. but the topic at hand was this...

who is going to make it to the Hall of Fame first, Hines Ward or Terrell Owens?

the question might seem obvious to people in here. but SOME people who aren't Steeler fans of course root for the later of the two. personally, i choose Hines Ward for numerous reason. i would like to know what you think.

Owens will get into the HOF easily because of his numbers

Hines will have a tougher time( although he shouldn't) getting in the HOF

If it was my decision they both go in. But I expect Hines to be ignored at least for a few years.

Around that time other receivers such as Marvin Harrison, Torry Holt and Randy Moss will also be in discussion for the hall btw

I think Hines makes it first. If not for #'s but for now he has a SB, SB MVP and hasn't nuked two teams.

Owens is probally first ballot.

Hines might take a few years but he will get in. What sets him apart is his physicality, he played a brand of football unseen by most in the era of football Hines Ward has been playing in.

Once they let Lawrence Taylor in, character no longer became a factor. Due that unfortunate incident and the poor precedent it set, TO goes first.

Wait until the careers are over. TO could still do something stupid that gets him expelled from the NFL and the Hall of Fame.

Another Drug Overdose or crashing his car into a bus or something.

as for the "Numbers". Owens started playing in 1996. Ward started in 1998. So Owens has 2 years on Ward for "Stats"

Catches for Career
owens is 8th with 934
ward is 22nd with 778

Recieving Yards Career
Owens is 7th with 13,886
Ward is 34th with 9,492

Touchdowns Career
Owens is 2nd 137
Ward is 29th 71

SB MVP Awards
Owens with 0
Ward with 1

SB Rings
Owens with 0
Ward with 1

Added those last two for giggles

According to those stats, Owens has outperformed Ward (you have to remember he didn't play for a while with the Iggles as well).

Ward has been consistent for us, but he is going to have to have another SB run, with some GOOD play, maybe a couple great SB catches, in order to really solidfy his HOF run.

Not just because of him, but because he is a Steeler, and there seems to be a bias against Steelers going into the HOF.

As much as TO annoys me, I have to give him props for his recent reticence. He has practically been a model citizen, on and off the field.

How that affects his entrance into the HOF, I'm not really sure.

Considering how long it took Lynn Swann to make it in, IMO Hines will probably have an upward climb there too. :o

Ward's biggest problem is that he's on a run-the-ball first football team.
