If Cowher says no I think the city is gonna erupt. Everyone there is so into him becoming their coach its pathetic and sad.

Maybe owners are wising up to "successful" coordinators who merely have to coach exceptionally talented teams (ala Billick as OC for the Randy Moss/Chris Carter Vikings or RC as DC for the Patriots...and their tapes.)

Very good point.

How often does a coordinator of a bad offense or defense get hired as a head coach if he has no prior HC experience? It's not often.

Tomlin got the interview for two reasons, he was a minority so it complied with the Rooney Rule and because he was the coordinator of the best run defense in football that season. The Rooneys were not going to interview a minority canidate that didn't have a shot at the job, otherwise they would have interviewed some minority special teams coordinator or defensive line coach.

Teams go after guys who have worked for successful head coaches and have had success at their assitant positions.

I would think the Browns wouldn't go back to the Bellichick coaching tree after Romeo bombed out on them though. Once bitten, twice shy.

When are you kids gonna learn to stop questioning me when it comes to sources?

Frankly, I find the denial hillarious, but when I start getting attacked merely for being the messenger, it actually becomes absurd. Look, it's fine to be passionate about not wanting Cowher to coach for the Browns. I get that. But why bash me for pointing out what is rapidly becoming not only possible, but more and more probable?

http://blog.cleveland.com/sports/200...in_clevel.html

Bill Cowher, the long-time coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers, visited enemy territory today as the keynote speaker for the Cleveland Auto Show dealer's breakfast.

Cowher, who played for the Browns and later was an assistant under Marty Schottenheimer, stepped down as Steelers coach a year ago to spend time with his family. He was rumored as a possible candidate for the Browns job at the start of last season when there was speculation that Romeo Crennel might be fired.

In a question-and-answer session following his speech, Cowher was asked if he'd ever want to come back and coach in Cleveland.

"I'd love to come back," Cowher said. "If there's a place I'd like to come back to, this is it."
He quickly added, "Don't get me wrong. I'm not coming back."

Cowher, who worked as a pre-game host on CBS this past season, praised Crennel.

"Romeo has done the hard work and now he's reaping the rewards," Cowher said. "He's a great head coach and you (Browns fans) should support him."

As he finished his speech, Cowher received a standing ovation from the crowd. He was asked if he ever expected that to happen in Cleveland.

"No one would ever believe me if I told them it did," he said.

We already knew Cowher was a Cleveland guy(he played there for 3 years and coached there for 3 years) , I don't see anything in that post that is compelling.

Not any better than what you have here, but a month newer

No, that is not "all I have". My source was questioned, and I supplied it.

Sounds like you're another person in denial.

Do you think a coach who makes 10 mil a year can't afford more than one house? Do you expect Cowher to come out and say "Yes, I plan on taking the Cleveland job after Crennel is fired"?

Things don't work that way. This is just like when rumors of lay-offs or mergers occur in corporate America: The second a denial is voiced, it almost surely means those lay-offs or that merger is/are imminent.
