Exclamation SNL/NFL?

i know they've had a slew of athletes who have hosted SNL. like, Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Joe Montana, Fran Tarkenton, Michael Jordan, LeBron James, and Michael Phelps just to name a few. i know they usually have an athlete at a crucial point in their career. -- i always wondered, how come they didn't get Ben Roethlisberger to host after he won the Super Bowl? AND...(not if) but when we win this year, do you think SNL will snag a Steeler to host? if so, which one do you think would be a good host?

discuss...if not, just ignore me. i'm bored and thinking of random stupid threads! haha!

It would be good but lets face it he is just the Qb on the Steelers. Its not like we have millions upon millions of fans and media darlings. There is a lil sarcasm in that reply.

You make a valid point....I mean freakin Shia Lepouf got to host it twice ( I know he's an actor, but seriously, Shia?) so why not a Steelers player. This caused me to further investigate this phenomenon.

SNL began airing in Oct. of '75, the same year Steelers were defending SB champs and the same season they won it twice.

The first NFL star I found hosting the show was Fran Tarkenton (sp?) in '77(even though the Vikes LOST that SB)....major douchery.

And the next was OJ in '78 after the Bills lost the SB (more major douchery).

1979....No NFL star hosting when Steelers win SB. What??

1980...NO HOST LISTED for the March 15th episode and no NFL Stars hosting at all that year when Steelers win 4th SB. What what what???

But of course on January 30th of 1982 freaking John Madden gets to host after the Raiders win the SB....FREAKING WHAT??

Then there comes a 5 year drought where no NFL star (at least none I can recognize by name) are hosting until '87 when it's Walter Peyton and Montana....I will let this one go.

There is an even bigger gap here where there are a few random stars like Barkley, Gretzky and I think a couple of Olympic people.

The next football player to host would be Deion Sanders in '95...whatever.

2001 freakin Derek Jeeter. ( I know, baseball, but just his name makes me go echhh.)

April 15th 2005....FREAKING TOM BRADY....blech.

Same date in 2006....Lindsey Lohan??? I feel disgusted already.

March '07....the media darling Peyton himself....ok I really let this one go since his was uber hilarious.

After my evaluation I have come to the conclusion that I'm way too bored tonight and that it's all a conspiracy.

To answer your question, I would love to see Harrison do SNL (though I know he never would) I think it would be funny though. Ben would obviously be funny doing it as well, he has a great sense of humor. Ward would crack me up too I think.

*Edit* I just thought about this too, I wonder if they asked Eli or anyone from the Giants to do it last year, you think they would have been all over Eli for it. He seems a little more reserved than Peyton though so I wonder if they did and he turned them down.

Ryan Clark is hilarious. He may not be well known outside of Pittsburgh but he'd be really good.

The dancing he and Will Forte did to Herb Alpert's "Casino Royale" in that basketball sketch was hysterical. Watching everyone trying not to lose it completely was almost as funny as the dorky dancing.

I think if Ben would win another Super Bowl, he might be asked to do it. And I bet he'd be good - he can be very charming, and is probably very able to make fun of himself.
