Default Biggest Bust?

so, now that the season is winding down and of course the Super Bowl is right around the corner. it's time to reflect on such matters as, who took the biggest dump on their season this year? who was the biggest disappointment and who actually surprised you? give me your top 3 or each.

biggest disappointment
1. Cleveland Browns
2. Dallas Cowboys
3. Jacksonville Jaguars

after what all three of those teams did last year, i half expected better from those guys. granted, they sucked it bad this year and i'm glad we don't have to mess with them in the playoffs or the Super Bowl, but damn...they stunk it up. Cleveland was the biggest fluke behind Anderson. Dallas' "Big D" was "drama" and all the media attention couldn't shy away from the fact that Romo is the hugest choke artist in the league. Jacksonville was a huge bust because of the hopes and dreams they had last year and the steal of a win they got from us put a bad taste in my mouth. but David Garrard is awful and i'm excited we took a whooping to them this year. =)

biggest surprise
1. Arizona Cardinals
2. Tennessee Titans
3. Detroit Lions

i'm sure a lot of people chose the Cardinals, but i bet a lot of people are going to regret hopping on that bandwagon. i smell an ass kicking in 2 weeks. the Titans were a surprise because of what Kerry Collins was able to do with that team after the Madden Curse came a year later to Vince Young. now he might not be starting next season and the Titans took a huge fist to the nuts from the Ravens to solidify my opinion of them being overrated. yeah, they beat us...but so what? we are in the Super Bowl and they are NOT! the Lions...i was shocked at the turn out of that season. SURPRISE! no wins! i mean, you couldn't even get ONE win!? just ONE!? *sigh* maybe next year.

Being a Dallas fan-I'll be frank with y'all and really didn't think they would do that great this year, why? Not b/c of all the baggage they had, but talentwise, I just didn't think they were that GREAT(i.e. letting NT Jason Ferguson go was one of my biggest fears, and I was sadly, but ultimately correct about that. Plus I thought our OL was overrated last year, and again, I was sadly, but ultimately correct about that this year). If anything, our '07 squad was very similar to the Ravens '06 squad(13-3 and Super Bowl favorites)...and guess what, our '08 squad was very similar to the Ravens '07 squad(underachieved, injuries and locker room issues).

Browns-they've become the new Redskins...mortgaging their future by trading valuable draft picks for former Pro Bowlers/underachievers.

Jaguars-yes, this is a big surprise. Jack Del Rio really put his rubber stamp on this team in '07...I really admire the mental toughness he instilled on this team. However-their locker room issues, in particular, were a big surprise. Of course, injuries across their OL didn't help matters either.

As for other busts...

Saints-although to be fair, they were one of the most injured teams in the league, especially on D. However-the Jeremy Shockey trade was a huge mistake. A TO-type of player who just merely shows good stats, and nothing else. Too bad they gave up a 2nd and a 5th for him, they could have used this to draft D this year.

Redskins-OK, they did alot better than I thought when they had so many question marks coming in, however...they WERE 6-2 to start the season. No excuse to slide into oblivion from there.

As for the surprises...

Cards-yep...and also remember they were having problems, problems, problems around this time last year. The FO gave Fitz a very bad rookie contract-he commanded some $17m against the cap, and out of desperation, they ALMOST traded him to Philly for a couple of turds(Lito Sheppard and Winston Justice) to get some much needed cap room. They ended up restructuring his contract, but it was too little, too late as the FA period already passed by(Whisenhunt wanted Alan Faneca, but they didn't have the cap room prior to Fitz's restructuring, to AF moved on). Anyhow-a year later...here they are in the Super Bowl despite all their "problems".

Titans-yep...so much for the Cowboys having drama this season, the Titans had their's early in the year when Young pulled a Ricky Williams. Thankfully, they had an experienced vet stepping in and they didn't miss a beat. Sure, they choked in the playoffs, but it was a successful reg season nonetheless.

Niners-add them b/c they were from a team continuing to absolutely go nowhere, to FINALLY finding themselves an identity as Mike Singletary has put a rubber stamp on this team. This team will have a long and successful run as long as Singletary is running the ship.

Seattle-I put them as a "surprise" b/c I would have thought Holmgren would go out on a positive note. He's one of the most respected coaches in the league, and to see him go out like that was very surprising.

Carolina-didn't expect them to do much with a patchwork DL, and, of course, Steve Smith getting into a big fight with teammates in TC(thought it was the final nail in their coffin). But they really rallied together and played alot better than I thought they would. Of course, the playoffs are a completely different story.

Pats-not only their star QB, but 1/2 of their team practically went down...only to become the first 11 win team in over 20 years to not make the playoffs.

I would say the Bills were the biggest dump. To go from one of the 3 last undefeated to losing it all is embarrassing.

Arizona - Obvious choice, the Rams have to hate seeing how Warner has been able to give a major boost to a franchise in their own division.

Dolphins - Shows how quickly a franchise can turn itself around, from a one win season to the fourth seed in AFC. Quite incredible.

Buffalo - Looked as though the franchise was heading in the right direction, then a complete collapse.

Washington - 6 & 2 and had a couple of road division wins under their belt, very disappointing for a team that made the playoffs the previous season.

Green Bay (and mostly their defense) should get at least an honorable mention for the bust department.

Bust: Jags. They should have carried the momentum over, but they started losing it the second they made that ridiculous trade on draft day.

Surprise: Hands down the Cardinals. Yeah, 9-7 is no great shakes, and they play in the Jr. Varsity NFC BUT they finally made it to the big dance.

1. Jaguars
2. Bills
3. Patriots
3a. Broncos

First two are self-explanatory; Patriots had to go on there because injury or no, they didn't even make the playoffs and after all the boasting that they were going to the Super Bowl again, I enjoyed watching them get their dicks dragged through the mud. Broncos weren't exactly the best team in the world, but that was one of the biggest choke jobs of all time. Honorable mention to the Cowboys and Packers.

1. Dolphins
2. Cardinals
3. Vikings

I don't care if the Dolphins did tangible things to improve, no way did I expect them to go from 1-15 to the playoffs. Vikings looked completely inept to start the season and I was amazed that they did as well as they did, even though they won a mediocre division.
