Default Steelers' Polamalu has reputation of being a prankster

Steelers' Polamalu has reputation of being a prankster

Pittsburgh Steelers defensive backs have learned the hard way to keep tabs on their helmets around Troy Polamalu. Their shoes and cell phones, too.

After the Steelers played the Minnesota Vikings in the preseason, Steelers cornerback Bryant McFadden returned to the bench to grab his helmet and run into the locker room. But when he got his hand on the helmet and started running, a force jerked him back.

The helmet was tied to the bench. And Polamalu did it.

"Whenever he can find anything to do to entertain himself, we're all liable," McFadden said. "It's all fun and dandy. We try to find ways to get him back. Now that you brought that to my attention, I'm going to do it today."

It's almost like an initiation with the Steelers defensive backs. If Polamalu picks on you, you know he likes you.

He puts grass or snow in people's helmets during practice and unties people's shoes. Sometimes he hides the shoes altogether. Running back Willie Parker even heard Polamalu once got into a teammate's phone and texted a woman in his address book to offer her tickets for a game. She thought she really had tickets and showed up to discover she was just Polamalu's latest victim.

It's you, Willie
Hey, Willie Parker, who has the longest touchdown run in the history of the Super Bowl?

"Ah, that's tough," Parker said, grinning. "I don't know that one."

It was Parker, running 75 yards to score in 2006.

"It was just blocked up perfectly," Parker said. "The offensive line did a great job of putting a hat on a hat it was up to me just to finish it off."

Parker was just the other running back in that Super Bowl, playing alongside Jerome Bettis. He liked having Bettis there.

"He always used to coach me up," Parker said. "I definitely approached it differently because I gotta study a little more. I don't got another coach on the sideline."

Not so balmy in Pittsburgh
There's a winter storm warning in Pittsburgh today. It's 22 degrees, but it feels like 11. In Tampa, the high today is expected to be 73 degrees.

Doesn't surprise me in the least. Troy is very soft-spoken and passive away from the football field and the quiet ones are the ones that are the biggest pranksters.
