Cards vs. Steelers not about revenge
http://www.azcentral.com/sports/card...-cardsadv.html The Arizona Republic They have watched the tape, or at least portions of it, and reliving their loss to the Steelers in Super Bowl XLIII is almost as painful to the Cardinals now as it was when it happened more than six months ago. And privately, some of them still wonder as they prepare for a Super Bowl rematch with Pittsburgh on Thursday (5 p.m., ESPN, Ch. 3) in a preseason game at Heinz Field: • Why couldn't they tackle Pittsburgh's James Harrison on that flukey 100-yard interception return? Did the Steelers get away with a clipping penalty or two on the play? • How could the Cardinals give up the lead after Larry Fitzgerald's dramatic 64-yard touchdown reception with 2:37 le? They had victory in their grasp. • And, of course, did Santonio Holmes really get both feet down in the end zone when he hauled in his winning 6-yard touchdown catch from Ben Roethlisberger? And even if he did, how did three Cardinals defenders surrounding him not stop it from happening? "I don't think anybody who was there thinks they stole the game from us," Cardinals left guard Reggie Wells said. "They earned the win. They made fewer mistakes and they capitalized on ours. "Winning this game isn't going to give us that ring we ultimately wanted. But it'll be good to go back out there and bang on somebody and, hey, it may as well be the team you lost to." Just a taste Revenge isn't in the game plan, given that the starters for both teams likely will play only a series or two. "It's just another game," Steelers cornerback Deshea Townsend told reporters this week. "The Super Bowl's gone. We won it. We don't care about the rematch." In truth, neither do the Cardinals. This is only a preseason game, a chance for some veterans to get a small taste of live hitting and knock out a little rust before turning things over to the kids trying to land a roster spot. If there's any drama entering this game, which will be nationally televised, it likely will end a few minutes after kickoff. "They're a good football team so it's a great opportunity for us to see how we stack up with some of our players," said Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt, who spent six years as a coach with the Steelers before coming to Arizona in 2007. "But that's a different team that won the Super Bowl and we're a different team. I think there's going to be a lot of excitement being there and playing in that stadium, but revenge for the Super Bowl. No, I don't think so. "Now if we can get back to the Super Bowl and play them again I would say, 'Yeah, that would definitely be the case.' " OK, no revenge. But how about a little regret? Kurt Warner has some. And it stems from that touchdown pass to Fitzgerald late in the game. "There was still too much time left on the clock," Warner recalled. "I remember seeing people on the sideline that were celebrating, saying 'We won the Super Bowl!' " At that exact moment, Warner said then-offensive coordinator Todd Haley, now the head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs, motioned toward him and asked for a celebratory hug. "I said, 'Nope, there's two and a half minutes left. I'll give you one in two and a half minutes,' " Warner said. The hug never happened. The Steelers stormed back for a 27-23 win in one of the most exhilarating Super Bowl climaxes in history. "I'm excited for this game, not because of who it's against, but just because it's a game," Cardinals running back Tim Hightower said. "It's our first chance to get some live action and take our first step to the start of the season. From that standpoint, it's an important game regardless of who it's against." Injury news Whisenhunt ruled out a handful of players, including receiver Early Doucet (shoulder) and tight end Anthony Becht (hamstring). Running back Beanie Wells (ankle sprain) is doubtful. Steelers coach Mike Tomlin had ruled out only one player, starting guard Darnell Stapleton (knee), but several other notables were held out of Pittsburgh's last practice, including safety Troy Polamalu (hamstring) and running backs Willie Parker (back spasms) and Mewelde Moore (hamstring). |

Surprised the crybaby asshat who wrote this claptrap didn't try to claim Warner's fumble was an incomplete pass too.
