Default Steelers' Ward has surgery on shoulder, not knee

No drama here...

Steelers' Ward has surgery on shoulder, not knee
Tuesday, February 10, 2009
By Ed Bouchette, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

The concern for Hines Ward during the two weeks leading to the Super Bowl was his right knee, which was sprained during the AFC championship game.

He started and caught two passes for 43 yards in the Steelers' 27-23 victory over the Arizona Cardinals to claim their sixth Lombardi Trophy.

This week, Hines Ward had surgery -- on his shoulder, not his knee.

Ward had surgery to "clean up" a shoulder, according to a Steelers source, and he should be fine for the 2009 season. The sprained MCL in his right knee did not require surgery and will heal on its own, the club source said.

Ward had his best season statistically in five years in 2008. He caught 81 passes for 1,043 yards, both tops since the 2003 season

That is great news. Shoulders are one thing but knees are another. I hope Ward has another 3 years in him and he can retire hopefully with at least another ring and 1,000 catches. And more importantly, no torn tendons in his body.

I worry that they didn't go in and clean up the knee, I hope it really does heal itself properly and we aren't hearing about it in August maybe needing surgery that'll keep him out 6 weeks or something.

Colbert disavows any knowledge of this.

It's just a sprained MCL. The same injury that kept Keisel out for 6 weeks. Keisel didnt need surgery because a MCL sprain will heal on its own, while an ACL is a bigger deal.

Good news that all he is getting is a shoulder arthoscopy.

I wish people would get their shit right before they write an article...

Ward had a Grade 2+ tear in his MCL which equals about an 80% tear. That is out of Ward's mouth to Tim Ryan on Sirius NFL radio.

Wow, amazed that he played with that. That's exactly what Andrew Bynum has for the Lakers. He is slated to miss 8 to 12 weeks. From what I know, grade 2+ tear can heal on its own.
