Here are some interesting stats which show Ben is in the same class (if not better) than Payton and Brady. At least when it matters the most. I went back and compared their quarterback playoff game stats in the years they each won the Superbowl in the order in which they won them.
Superbowl # Player/Year Comp-Att-Pct-Yrds-TDs-Ints-QB Rating-Yrds per Game Payton's 1st / 2006 97-153 63.4% -1,304 yrds - 3td - 7ints - 70.4 - 258yrdpg Brady's 1st / 2001 60-97 61.9% - 572 yrds - 1td - 1int - 77.3 - 191 yrdpg Ben's 1st / 2005 58-93 62.4% - 803 yrds - 7td+2R - 3int 101.7 201 yrdpg And they call Ben a game manager. In Brady's first Superbowl playoff run he throws 1td and 1int and has qb rating of 77.3 over 3 games. Payton throws 3tds - 7ints and has a qb rating of 70.4 over 4 games. Ben throws 7tds and rushes for 2 more and has qb rating of 101.7 over 4 games. Hard not to argue that Ben's 1st Superbowl run makes Brady's and Payton's seem kind of pathetic. Hell, in 2000, Trent Dilfer had 3tds - 1int and QB rating of 83.7 in his 4 playoff games. Superbowl # Player/Year Comp-Att-Pct-Yrds-TDs-Ints-QB Rating-Yrds per Game Payton's 2nd - Oops doesn't have one despite making the playoffs in 9 seasons Brady's 2nd / 2003 75/126 59.5% 792yrds 5tds - 2ints 84.5 - 264 yrdpg Ben' 2nd / 2005 54/89 60.7% 692yrds 3tds - 1ints 91.6 - 231 yrdpg Ben's 2nd Superbowl playoff run stats are very comparable to Bradys. When you factor in Ben's scrambling to overcome a suspect OL and the game winning drive, it seems to me that Ben outperformed Brady in his second Superbowl. Almost forgot, Brady also had the defensive plays before ball was snapped. Wonder if that helped inflate his stats? One final thing. Here are their cumulative stats for all their playoff games Player Win-Loss Comp% Tds Ints QB rating Payton 7-8 61.7% 22 17 83.16 Brady 11-2 61.8% 12 5 85.96 Ben 8-2 61.9% 15+2(r) 12 88.34 Ben has played in 3 less playoff games but has 3 more passing touchdowns + 2 rushing touchdowns than Brady. So much for Ben not having the stats to compare with Payton and Brady. |

Definitely a great post. People are quick to forget Ben's exceptional playoff stats only because he had a sub-par first superbowl. When you lay everything out like that it really proves that Ben should definitely be placed on the same level as Manning and Brady.

Nice catch, but what else would we expect from "The Patriot"? haha j/k man. No doubt Brady has impressive postseason stats, but I think the point still stands that Ben deserves to be regarded as one of the elite QBs

Brady is clutch which is why I have always rated him above Manning. He does more with a lot less talent (until last year) than Peyton. I do think Ben is now nipping on his heels as far as being a clutch QB. They are lengthening the gap with every mediocre playoff performance turned in by Peyton.

Nice post but there is one glaring flaw.
TOM BRADY IS A CHEAT! He is NOT in Payton and Bens class!
