Default The Salary Cap Restructures...

As Im sure most of you have noticed..the last 3 years, the Steelers have really been big on restructuring deals to free up cap money to sign players. Much to the dismay of the Rooney's who feel this is just pushing the problem into the future instead of dealing with it now. Sooner or later its gonna come back and bite us to some degree. The Steelers have always been very conscious of their money and dont overspend or chase FA like other teams do. But they do feel strongly about keeping a core team together when they feel its championship caliber, and just tweaking it instead of rebuilding totally. Which is evident by the yearly restructuring of contracts for players like Marvel Smith, Faneca, Aaron Smith, Bettis, Hartings, Hampton, etc.

As long as the Steelers try to keep this main team together, you'll continue to see this practice year in and year out..but somehow, we always manage to get it done by crunch time.

Didn`t the Steelers promise to redo Hines contract this year, I thought I remembered that from this time last year when he was upset with Tommy`s new contract???

yeah, Hines is due to get his extension this year, and u can bet the STeelers will find a way to get it done.. there's no way they wanna have hines come anywhere close to FA next offseason before getting a deal done. Although, They'll probably wait till closer to camp to get it done, after they size up their draft class and any FA we might bring in

I don't mind the deals. The money changed, but the years didn't. Hartings, Farrior, Staley all have two years left I think. At that time we can decide what to do with them with no penalties in future years. When you add in that in 2006 we will have an extra 1.5 already from Bettis actually retiring if he doesn't this year The extra hundreds of thousands we doled out won't hurt that much. And we are not committed for extra years.
