Default Alphonso Smith,,,a Bad pick!!

Hello everyone, calsteeler here. This is my very first post. I'm glad to be here, and enjoy some steeler talk. Now, I know alot of you will disagree with my thread title. But, after reading the Beacon Journal story about how the steelers might be interested in Wake Forest DB Alphonso Smith, I cringed. It's not that I don't like him. However, after reading all the great opinions here on the DB's, not one of you, at least that I saw mentioned the guy who I really like. And who can easily be had at our pick at the end of round 2, or maybe even the middle of the 3rd round IF we traded down a bit. And that player is Cincinnati's Mike Mickens.

Mickens is a great DB fans. He has every bit the ball skills that Smith has, and is even as good a tackler too. But Mickens is 3 inches taller at 6ft. Even though Mickens does weight 185 Lbs, don't let that fool ya. He is very physical, and he is not the gambler that Smith is. I have seen both play, Mickens several times. And Smith, as many picks as he does get, he gets burned equally as much because he tends to go away from the called defense to take chances. Mickens does not do this, and is much better at tailing his man all the way through his route.

To me, Mickens is one of the many players on my personal wish list. And as stated, he does not have to be had with our first rounder. As where Smith would. That way we can get a quality, Exp DB who maybe can start from day one, and still address another crucial need at # 32, like O-line, or D-Line.

Anyways, it's great to be here on this great newly discovered site. Bye-bye.

Calsteeler.

Welcome Calsteeler. Great to see that your first post is in the draft section.

I agree with your assessment of A.Smith. Personally I see Darius Butler or Sean Smith as DB options at #32.

Many a fan here are Parsons fans.

A CB will be taken and I am starting to think that a CB might actually be the BPA available when pick #32 comes around draft day.

Keep posting and we look forward to your draft ideas.

A guy like Snith is exactly what we need. He is a ball hawk. Yea, he takes chances but with Ike taking away the best reciever and Ryan playing deep he would be able too.

Anthony Smith was also a ball hawk who took a lot of chances...look at how well that turned out, especially in the '07 NE game.

I think we need a few more Alphonso Smith threads here, too...the current THREE isn't cutting it...
