Default What If He Is Here at 32?

I really dont think this guy could make it to the Steelers, but if he did would you hope the Steelers would select him saying that all the top OT prospects were gone and he was the best available player for the Steelers?

William Moore S 6’1 230 Missouri
By: Robert Davis

Moore had a solid freshman season, tallying 30 tackles and an interception in 2005. He was more active as a sophomore, finishing the year with 51 tackles, while picking off another pass. Moore had a breakout junior year though, where he had 117 tackles and eight interceptions on his way to All America honors.

Strengths

Moore is a physical safety that is a playmaker as a run and pass defender. He has excellent size in the secondary, and uses it to lay receivers out over the middle of the field. Moore is aggressive in attacking the action and delivers a blow when he meets the ball carrier. What separates Moore from most 230lb safeties is his cover ability. He is a good athlete that has tremendous ball skills. He easily locates the ball in the air and shows the ability to go up and make plays on the football.

Weaknesses

Moore does not have many shortcomings on the field, but he does lack tremendous closing speed. He is not in poor shape, but operating in the 220 range may give him an extra step and ease this concern but he can have problems recovering when a player beats him.

Future

Moore is a legitimate first round pick at the safety position. He has the skills, toughness, and instincts to be a perennial pro bowler in the NFL. This could be a very good safety class if a couple underclassmen declare, and where Moore goes exactly will depend on those decisions and workouts in the post season. Wherever he is selected, he will make his team happy and be a high impact defender.

Now, I know that we have one of the top 3 SS's in the game in Troy and I love the guy. But if Moore is still available I think the Steelers have got to give this alot of consideration seeing the injuries that Troy has had in the past few seasons, though not as much this past season as the 2 previous seasons. Again, I am not bashing Troy because I know that he is still one of the best in the biz right now, and just makes me kind of wonder how good Moore would play at FS, Just a thought..

He averages #27 in the average mock. http://www.thefootballexpert.com/200...kdraftadp.html

Some prognosticators have him in the 2nd or 3rd. http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings...2009&genpos=FS http://www.nflfans.com/x/2009/showpl...illiam%20Moore

We're in a position to draft BPA. Tomlin wants "R&H" (run and hit) guys (reference our 2007 #1). So it could happen. Interestingly, Moore is about the same size and description as Timmons. Just saying.

moore had a terrible senior bowl week. between that and and his slow 40 time at the combine, he won't even sniff the first round. maybe mid to late 2nd.

Another scouting report below. Seems like he'd be a good value at the bottom of the 3rd. Looks like he could fit at either safety position. Good ST contributor as well for sure.

William Moore
Safety
Missouri

Position: S
School: Missouri
School Year: Senior
Height: 6-1
Weight: 230

Draft Projection: Third
Safety Rank: 3

Strengths
A playmaker with size and just enough speed. An excellent all around athlete. Plays with good anticipation. Excellent in run support. A good tackler. Led the country in interceptions as a junior with 8. Was a cornerback early in his Missouri career.

Weaknesses
Has been more good than great as a senior. Has been vulnerable to the deep pass at times during his senior season. Not a true centerfielder type free safety. His speed is average. While he has played both free and strong safety in his college career, strong safety be his best pro position. Had shoulder surgery prior to his senior season. Missed 2 games as a senior due to an injured foot. After struggling during his senior campaign, Moore really struggled in coverage at the Senior Bowl. Who are you drafting the big hitting playmaker from 2007 or the up and down performer from 2008. There is talk he may need to move to weakside linebacker.

I still like the idea of the Steelers selecting FS Patrick Chung from Oregon. This guy sounds just like Troy Polomalu from what I have been hearing and reading about him and the stats dont lie about him playing in a very good conference facing great competition.
