MAC Champions! First NCAA Tiurney bid since Bob Huggins took them there in '86.

I expect they'll be a 14 seed, and get smoked by a team like Memphis or something...but, hey, better to go then not!

Like you said, even if they get knocked out early (and they may wind up being the Cinderella of the tourney - there's at least one pretty much every year), it still beats having to settle for the NIT.

I'm praying for a 12. The committee owes the program for slighting them in '07. They were 26-7, won the MAC regular season, lost the MAC Championship game on a flukey banking desperation 3, and didn't even make the NIT.

12/5's result in TONS of upsets. But, alas, it'll be a 14 almost for sure...

We drew a #13 and play the #4 Zags Thursday. If Akron shoots 50% or better from 3 point land, they have the defense to win, but I don't see them pulling off this upset. Gonzaga has rattled off 9 straight wins and they are as good as any Zag team in recent memory...

Wow. Zips gave them a scare. The Zags are susceptable to a physical team, and MAC basketball is pretty physical.

Akron was winning in the first half, all the way until the 9:30 mark of the second half, but Gonzaga pulled away to win 77-64.

Key stat: Zips shot 47% in the first half and were winning at the break by 3. They only shot 26% in the second half, and had a 12 minute dry spell.

Gonzaga will not beat Illinois if the Illini get past Western Kentucky.

Still, what a great season! We were picked to finish 4th in the East conference, and instead we win our first outright conference championship. This was a total rebuilding year, and we only lose one player to graduation, while picking up top recruit 7 foot center Zeke Marshall next season.

My Zips will be back!

That's good stuff! One of my coworkers is a huge MAC fan (for all sports) and is a big fan (in particular) of the Zips. It's been non-stop emails from him to a small group of us sports nuts. Personally, I'm more of a BGSU fan...but that's because I had a bunch of friends go there while I was on Active Duty.

Nate Miller (BGSU) is a legit player. Big guy who can do it all...he can even drain 3's.

Maybe he'll get drafted by the Cavaliers as a long term replacement for an aging Z!

Alright, foolish dream is done. I can't even name a player on my beloved Buckeye's team...let alone on any other college team right now.

I'm much more a fan of football (on all levels) than any level of basketball...though I am getting more interested in the college sports (outside of football.) I'm just nowhere near knowledgeable enough to talk teams or fill out a bracket with anything more than lucky guesses on potential upsets.
