Freedom Tower Will Be Called One World Trade Center

NEW YORK — The Freedom Tower is out. One World Trade Center is in.

The agency that owns ground zero confirmed Thursday that the signature skyscraper replacing the towers destroyed on Sept. 11 will be more commonly known as One World Trade Center.

The building under construction at the site was named the Freedom Tower in the first ground zero master plan. Officials at the time said the tallest, most symbolic of five planned towers at the site would demonstrate the country's triumph over terrorism.

Port Authority of New York and New Jersey chairman Anthony Coscia says the agency refers to the building as One World Trade Center. He says it's the building's legal name and "the one that's easiest for people to identify with."

Build it into the shape of a hand flipping the bird and put a Patriot Missile battery on top of it.

Don't really care what they call it though. Would have preferred freedom tower, but I can understand naming it World Trade Center again!

In part because of legal issues, mainly the families of the victims wanting the site preserved and blocking any attempts at rebuilding, and then after they began drawing up the plans, wanting to ensure that there will be some kind of permanent memorial to the victims. The planning stage took a while as well - lots of different designs were considered before settling on the final plans.

Rebuilding fast would have pulled the teeth of the terrorists a bit I think...

You know...I am not so sure they should build on the exact site. I'd be worried about Ghosts.

Here me out...most hauntings occur in places where a violent event took place. Gettysburgh as an example. Houses where an entire family is killed or something like that.

Well, 3000 people dying in a 2 building collapse after a plane smashed into the side of the building causing a gigantic fireball...well that's pretty violent.

I'd be interested to see if any of those "ghost hunters" aren't in this building the first week after its complete, or even during the construction of this new building. I mean, I would bet they have ghosts at that site.

But that's just my weird side coming out.
