Maybe because there is so much...and I have chose not to thoroughly read through it all, but I have yet to see much that is either

A: Not something Bush was already doing
B: Good for the country moving forward.

Our founding fathers would be DEEPLY saddened, and probably feel that they had ultimately failed, if they saw what has become of our government and the majority of our people.

Doesn't anyone ever get the impression that arguing politics in a forum is like running around in circles while smacking yourself in the head with a hammer?

No one is ever persuaded... lol.

No, but it IS an interesting diversion.

And I do think that people are persuaded...they may not always admit it, but it happens...

nice 'cut and paste' mr. history major.

i didnt realize you also minored in ignorance. my background in history is far more extensive than yours. just read the In 1492 Columbus discovered.... thread.

ive already cut and pasted all your little quotes (that still dont show you have any idea how the founding fathers would feel, Sigmund).

In addition, i have posted the declaration of independence, constitution, churchill speeches, the magna carta, patric henry, gettysburg address, etc.

see? im smarter than you.

wait.... i dont think i did the magna carta bungles suck.

gotta run!

I think it has to do with pride. I like to consider myself open to view points that I haven't considered. And, I have occasionally admitted that I rethought my position for some stances.

Overly proud and boisterous people tend to lack the ability to admit when they are wrong or haven't thought something through. (not accusing anyone here specifically)

If you're pleased or even tolerant of something, and you realize that all a certain avenue presents is hatred and mistrust, you just ignore it.

I have a feeling if Obama eliminated all taxes, brought all troops home everywhere in the world, and somehow made China swear fealty to the U.S. and forgive all debts, he'd still be the Antichrist because the liberals ruined television (or something equally inane).

I ignore any thread talking about Obama because people throw buzz words with negative connotations around so frequently. I lose a tremendous amount of respect for most of the posters on these boards because I hear Fox News or CNN regurgitated out of their mouths. All the hate and anger and bigotry that flows from talk show hosts mouth's is etched into words so volatile I can almost feel the aggression screaming from my monitor. And what's sad is that unlike roadrage or "internet" rage, most of us would repeat these malignant words in person. I can accept obnoxiousness under the guise of anonymity; when it too often translates to real world righteousness it becomes incredibly disheartening.

Words like liberal no longer mean someone who believes in socially equal and exploratory policies, but instead has become the definition of someone who hates hard workers, and by extension anyone who supports liberal policies becomes a socialist or communist or whatever the monthly buzz word is.

I guess I am a democrat, but I won't point fingers without examining my own "party". Take the above paragraph and change the word liberal to conservative, and change the second half of that sentence to "someone who hates gays and blacks and only trusts in WASPs" and it would be true too. It becomes so exacerbated that from an outside view, the only difference between conservative and liberal is the origin and target of insults.

So when I see "Obama did this", posted by either a "conservative" or "liberal" poster on these forums, I ignore it, because there is a (sometimes not-so) veiled insult hidden in the text. Something like "Obama increases DoD budget" is followed up with the invisible question "What now?".

I don't know, I'm rambling, but this is just the culmination of silliness. Seriously? You think the guy has been perfect in the first 90 days? Conversely, you think he's failed at everything he's done? I have no time for people who see the world in absolutes, thus I pay little attention to those who give him an "A" or an "F". Rampant, reality-TV style silliness.

It really is no worse or better then it always has been. I just read a bit about the public debates during Lincoln's first presidential campaign. You want to talk vitriol...wow.

Anyway, I do agree that the latest forms of entertainment news (30 second segments of talking heads before being rushed to a commercial) are less then flattering to our collective intelligence. But, that has given rise to blogging and a new wave of news delivery.

I, for one, enjoy healthy debate and I like forums like this that allow it. I think this site is pretty good with avoiding personal attacks vs. attacking viewpoints, which fuels the debate. Some people confuse the two.

OK Tony, you win. I'll admit I am not as learned as you. So I am starting to read the constitution and learn about our founding fathers.

I hope you realize that the only reason I am researching this is because I believe I am right and your words are combative and emphatically implying that I am wrong. So, I am looking for and presenting facts to support my beliefs. You are more than welcome to present facts showing your side as well....my dear friend.

"emphatically"???

actually (for those of us on earth) i simply stated that you view the glass as half empty whereas i view it as half full. thats about as ANTI-emphatic as it gets. my wording was calculated and i phrased it that way for a reason.

you are the one being emphatic about being correct (imperialistic hegemony at its finest). shit, i aint even doing no resurch.

by all means, if you think your research of quotes will help you get into the heads of men who have been dead for 200 years, then knock yourself out.

but you will never be able to prove what they would be feeling as "fact".

finish your research, and then i will be happy to respond. but while youre at it, look for some evidence of how our founding fathers would feel about big govt such as the US HWY Dept, INS, Centers of Disease and Control, NASA, etc. and how they would propose paying for it.

(FWIW- im not even sure they could fortell what they would think about lincoln abolishing slavery. im sure you can though! )

again mel, i like you, but just because doesnt mean i will sit around and watch you try to paint me as an idiot.
