Default Actor Dom DeLuise Passes Away

I am shocked and saddened to learn of the death of one of the funniest men ever on the screen. Not only was he just plain hilarious, his facial expressions and antics cracked me up! RIP Dom. :

Dom DeLuise Passes Away at Age 75
PopEater / Wire Services

Dom DeLuise, the portly actor-comedian whose affable nature made him a popular character actor for decades with movie and TV audiences as well as directors and fellow actors, has died. Dom DeLuise died at a Los Angeles hospital in his sleep at the age of 75. He is survived by his wife, Carol Arthur, and three sons -- Peter, David and Michael DeLuise. Click through for a retrospective of his life

TMZ first reported the actor's death. According to the gossip site, DeLuise died at a Los Angeles hospital in his sleep.

His son, Michael DeLuise, told Los Angeles TV station KTLA and radio station KNX that his father died Monday night.

The actor, who loved to cook and eat almost as much as he enjoyed acting, also carved out a formidable second career later in life as a chef of fine cuisine. He authored two cookbooks and would appear often on morning TV shows to whip up his favorite recipes.

As an actor, he was incredibly prolific, appearing in scores of movies and TV shows, in Broadway plays and voicing characters for numerous cartoon shows.

Writer-director-actor Mel Brooks particularly admired DeLuise's talent for offbeat comedy and cast him in several of his films, including "The Twelve Chairs," "Blazing Saddles," "Silent Movie," "History of the World Part I" and "Robin Hood: Men in Tights." DeLuise was also the voice of Pizza the Hutt in Brooks' "Star Wars" parody, "Spaceballs."

The actor also appeared frequently in films opposite his friend Burt Reynolds. Among them, "The End," "The Best Little Who rehouse in Texas," 'Smokey and the Bandit II," "The Cannonball Run" and "Cannonball Run II."

Reynolds released a statement to Entertainment Tonight on his friend's death.

"I was thinking the other day about this. As you get older you think about this more and more, I was dreading this moment. Dom always made everyone feel better when he was around. I never heard him say an unkind word about anyone. I will miss him very much," the 'Deliverance' star says.

Aside from his Hollywood and kitchen duties, he was also the author of two children's books.

He will be missed. He was such a great guy. I know his son (David) has pursued an acting career...though not nearly as high profile as his dad.

Spaceballs and Cannonball Run = All time classics!

Surprising he lived as long as he did considering he lived a life of excess (and he was never shy about admitting as much).

He was a genuinely funny, funny guy...RIP.

"Pizza the Hutt, the famed half-man, half-pizza, was found dead earlier today. Word is he became locked in his car and ate himself to death!" - hilarious line from Spaceballs

He was great in Blazing Saddles and Smokey and the Bandit II as well. Very funny man.

He will truly be missed. RIP, Dom.
