Default Roy Williams to Cincy

Quote:
Bengals cut Jones, sign Williams

Levi Jones’ career as a Bengal officially came to an end Wednesday when the team terminated his contract, making him an unrestricted free agent.

And Roy Williams agent, Jordan Woy, has confirmed that the Bengals have signed Williams. Terms have not been finalized.

The team is not expected to formally announce the signing today. The signing would mark the second Cowboy to sign with the team in a month, following defensive end Tank Johnson.

Williams will be entering his eighth season in the league and will be reunited with defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer. Williams played in only three games last year, being limited with a twice-broken forearm.

In the five years with Zimmer, Williams flourished in his 4-3 defense, playing close to the line of scrimmage and establishing a reputation as one of the hardest hitters in the game.

In their five years together Williams made four trips to the Pro Bowl and averaged more than three interceptions as well as 81.6 tackles per season.

Speculation about Jones’ future began before the NFL owners' meetings in late March, when the Bengals told Jones and his agent Kenneth Zuckerman that they intended to trade the veteran left tackle before or during the NFL draft. If Jones wasn’t traded by then, the eighth-year veteran would be released.

Jones, who was drafted in the first round (10th overall) by the team in 2002, spent seven seasons here and played in 94 games with 89 starts.

“There are no hard feelings. Levi feels grateful to the Bengals for drafting him and giving him the opportunity,” Zuckerman said. “He is looking forward to getting on with his career, finding a new home and continuing to play pro football.”

Jones’ release became a foregone conclusion after the Bengals drafted Andre Smith in the first round. Jones, who was scheduled to make $3 million in base salary this season, has been training at Athletes’ Performance in Tempe, Ariz.

After missing just one game during his first four seasons, Jones has missed 17 during the past three. Last year he suffered a season-ending leg injury against Philadelphia and missed the last six games.

Gotta love that the Bungles are picking up Dallas' scraps. I didn't know the garbage of a non-playoff team was so valuable.

Roy Williams will fit right in with the rest of the pack. After all, the guy's made his career on dirty, undisciplined tackling.

Former Cowboys safety Williams going to Bengals

Posted: May 6th, 2009 | Steve Wyche | Tags: Cincinnati Bengals, Dallas Cowboys, Mike Zimmer, Roy Williams

The Bengals have agreed to terms with former Cowboys free safety Roy Williams.

The Cowboys released Williams, once regarded as one of the fiercest safeties in the NFL, after last season.

In Cincinnati, Williams will be reunited with Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer, who coached the Cowboys’ defense when the safety had some of his best production.

It would appear so. This is icing on the cake after they signed caught-with-everything-but-a-Tank Johnson.

I guess this is another step in creating a smash-mouth defense.

3 kids with attitude problems drafted. at least two with attitude problems signed in the offseason. Plug your ears ladies and gentlemen, and get ready for it to blow up in their faces.

I live in Ohio and people here are really talking up this signing as if he would be their version of Ryan Clark...yeah real likely. He is a soft hitter and not intimidating at all. Plus he was signed by Cincinnati...come on.

He'll be a good sub for running downs, other than that....eh, whatever.

being that the revens and browns have no passing game, this is actually a logical signing for the bengals for what they face in the division.

however the steelers will just pass everytime williams is on the field and eat their lunch through the air.
