And I still maintain that it's tough to control the puck when the ice sucks. However, if they want to have the puck more, they have to get better in the face-off circle. They lost 70% of the draws last night, which means the Wings have control of the puck more often. And that was without Datsyuk in the lineup, who is arguably their best face-off man. They have to get better in the circle, plain and simple.

No, but the wings did always seem to gain a half step or so on our D and get behind our guys time after time. It looked like our D was just going though the motions and "gliding" around rather than getting after the puck and playing like they want it. Even the commentators brought up the fact that the weak link was definitely the Pens defense.
For all of the talk about how horrible the Pens' D allegedly is, they still held the Wings, who were averaging nearly 40 shots per game, to just 30 last night, and they needed lucky bounces to win. No, they collectively are not as good as the apparently God-like, never-can-do-wrong Wings' D, but they hold their own.

We may have outchanced and outshot them, but we were only really threatening in the first period. We couldn't hold the puck in their zone to get any kind of pressure going, even with an extra skater (PP and at the end). They would get breakaways when we were on the powerplay. Mostly we dumped the puck in, maybe got one pass off, it got intercepted, we chased them to our zone, finally got the puck back..rinse..repeat.
I don't know...they seemed to play pretty well in the 2nd period and spent most of the time in the Wings' zone. Even Babc0ck admitted that. They had several great chances in that period - Malkin was stoned by Osgood on a breakaway, Satan couldn't hold onto the puck when he tried to turn it over to his backhand in tight on Osgood and put it behind him, Guerin was stopped in tight, and I think Fedotenko was stoned by Osgood as well. The 2nd was definitely their best period last night. But yeah, they had the puck intercepted a lot on their dump-ins, so they may want to try to carry the puck more to the blue line and then use soft dump-ins, let the other forwards get up on their D and force turnovers, keep the puck down low and cycle. I thought the dump-ins were a little too hard. That is something that they will have to work on, but with no practice time, I don't know how much they'll be able to go over it. As for the PP, again, it was their inability to win face-offs that really hurt them, and as a result they couldn't gain control of the puck and get set up. I think if they are able to gain control of the puck on the PP, they should be able to get some chances on their PK unit, which has been one of the worst this postseason and has been their weakest link.

Good thing is, we have youth on our side. With game two only like 15 hours away, we also don't have long to think about this loss. Here is to a better game tomorrow! (today actually)
Well with the way so many people are talking, they may as well not even take the ice tonight, since the series is apparently over after game 1. The Pens will be better and they will win tonight. Bank it.

Well with the way so many people are talking....
Oh stop it - people can vent if they want to - this isn't a cheerleading contest.

Malkin and Sid were both fighting the puck a little bit last night. Malkin especially didn't look nearly like the player that has owned the playoffs so far. He didn't play bad, but he was far from dominating and the PP sucked, even with both Sid and Malkin out there.

And this is the Stanley Cup Final - no time for mediocre goaltending either.

Step it up or go home down 0-2 again.

I wasn't talking about people here. I wasn't talking about Pens fans either.

See what happens when you assume?

They better be pissed.

Malkin and Satan and Crosby all missed good chances (breakaways and open nets) and Detroit scored on junk, that was the difference.

Lets see how the respond tonight. Why was Osgood on the bench for Detroit for so long? He still looks good after all this years.

The key to beating the wings is out working them and, score on the pp. It;s not brain surgery they are too good if you can't make them on the pp. I've been watching hockey for over thirty years and, I like both teams I'm a true hockey fan I watch no matter who is playing. Anyone who ever has watch wings games at the Joe knows the boards always have that crazy bounce no knows this more than Osgood. Pens need to win tonight or it will be tough to comback. I think Geno needs a big game tonight for the pens to win.

Mellon can produce some crazy ones to. Though it's not surprising considering the Arena is almost 50 years old. The Joe is about 30+ or so. It will not stun me if both teams fall victim to crazy bounces the rest of the way especially when they play in if I'm not mistaken(I know this is true for the Pens) the oldest arenas in the National Hockey League.
