10-Year-Old Cancer Patient Visits Steelers' Practice

PITTSBURGH -- The Make A Wish Foundation arranged a meeting between 10-year-old Heather Miller and her favorite Pittsburgh Steeler, Casey Hampton, while they practiced at the team’s practice facility on Wednesday.

Miller has been fighting Ewing’s sarcoma, a form of cancer that attacks the soft tissue and bone. Trips into Pittsburgh usually mean chemotherapy treatments or surgery for the young girl. However, on Thursday, the trip made a wish come true.

“It’s fun being out here today,” Miller said.

“I am a low-key guy,” said Hampton. “I don’t do a whole lot, but I love to see the kids smile.”

Despite having lost several ribs to her cancer, Miller was even able to throw the football.

“Seeing her throw the football today brings tears to my eyes,” said Heather’s mom, Wendy Miller. “They told us she wouldn’t be able to throw again.”

Her mother said quarterback was always Miller’s dream position on the football field, and the Steelers quarterback showed up to be interviewed by her.

“We got to have fun with her,” Ben said. “That’s all that matters to us.”

(Nice to see the Steelers helping out the young lady. Check out the videos. Best wishes for her and her family. - mesa)

I lost my sister to cancer May 30 2008 so when I see the steelers take time out for someone like Heather Miller it makes me appreciate just what kind of a special football team and organization we cheer for.God bless the steelers!

Thanks for the vid links. Great to see the players give something back to people that need it. They made the kids day and then some.
