Labor strife on the horizon ?

National Football League owners will open their annual meeting at the lush Ritz Carlton resort Sunday in Maui with an unsightly cloud hanging on the horizon -- their labor agreement.

For years, other leagues have pointed to the NFL as the model for pro sports labor agreements with its salary cap, revenue sharing, drug and steroids policy, free agency and long-running stability that has caused no work stoppages since 1987.

That could change because the players are starting to flex their muscles.

"It's becoming critical," said Dan Rooney, the Steelers' chairman who long has been involved in NFL labor talks. "I thought we would have something more done."

I hope that a labor strike doesn`t interrupt our run at a Superbowl. I beleive we have something special with this team and they won`t stay together forever. We need to take advantage of what we have now, and a strike would just kill us, look at hockey.

the current agreement runs thru 2006 I believe, so we're safe for the next couple seasons, but credit the NFL for getting to work on this problem early, so they have plenty of time to solve it.
