Default New Gitmo Video Game

http://www.sundaymercury.net/news/su...6331-23750637/

A MIDLAND man detained as a terror suspect at Guantanamo Bay is cashing in with a computer game based on the infamous prison camp.

Moazzam Begg, 41, from Sparkhill, Birmingham, who was captured by the CIA and thrown in jail at Guantanamo Bay in 2003, will appear as himself in a new Xbox 360 game which he has taken a financial stake in.

Watch the trailer here

He was released from the US military jail without charge in 2005, and claims to have suffered torture during his captivity.

Rendition: Guantanamo is due to hit the shelves in October, and allows players to control an inmate fighting his way free from the notorious detention centre. Its makers say they hope to make up to £3 million from the game.

Human rights activist Mr Begg plays the head of an organisation which helps the terror suspect to escape from Guantanamo in a desperate bid for freedom to find his son.

Last night Mr Begg said he had not yet received any money yet from the producers, and would want cash to go to his CagePrisoners group, which fights for detainees’ rights.

“The software firm approached me with this idea about making a game based on the Guantanamo experience,” he said. “My first response was hesitation that it might trivialise the experience.

“They explained the game and I thought the Guantanamo issue might be opened up to people who might not have given it a second thought through this new medium.

“I was concerned that if they are going to do it, then it should be accurate and indicate the reality of life over there.

“If anything happens that might trivialise the experience I would pull out. I’m involved to make sure it is as true to life as possible.”

Birmingham City Councillor Salma Yaqoob, from independent party Respect, said it was important that the game did not exploit those still detained in Guantanamo.

“We’ve still got hundreds of people there being imprisoned without a trial date and without legal rights,” she said.

“In principle I would support this game as long as it doesn’t exploit those people and helps to bring attention to the situation.”

In the game, players control a Yemeni detainee at Guantanamo, which has been sold by the US Government to a shadowy agency called ‘Freedom Corp’.

Before he is subjected to torture and scientific experiments, the character must shoot his way out of the detention camp to bring down his captors.

In a sinister video trailer for the new release, broadcast on internet site YouTube, the game is promoted with the tagline “It is time to fight back”.

The message running through the trailer reads: “Captured behind enemy lines and sold to Guantanamo for illegal scientific experiments. Tortured and beaten by mercenaries, used as a lab rat by scientists.
“Imprisoned for five years with nothing to live for ... until now. You have a son you have bever seen, and they are holding him – but where? It is time to fight back. It is time to escape.”

Zarrar Chishti, director of Scottish software company T-Enterprise, which is producing the game for around £250,000, said the firm had consulted politicians and police during the development stage.

“We thought of the game about two and a half years ago,” he said.

“We express ourselves through our games. The firm is run by Muslims and we were disgusted by Guantanamo so we decided to come up with an Xbox 360 game.

“Moazzam has been invaluable. He was very sceptical in the beginning, but he thought about it and has now signed up to appear in what we hope is a trilogy of games.”

The firm has already received hate mail about the game, including several e-mails from the US.

“For some people it seems like an extremist game,” said Mr Chisti. “People who don’t know anything about it assume that American soldiers are getting shot. No US or British soldiers get killed – the only ones getting killed are mercenaries.

“Before making the game we checked with the police and the security services. We didn’t want MI5 knocking out door down.

“We’re expecting an extreme reaction to the game in the US, particularly in the Bible Belt.

“But we’re expecting it to sell well in the Middle East.

“There is a book being written as well – this could be one of our most successful games ever.”

This kind of bothers me. I am a bit worried that people will play this video game and think that there are some Heinrich Himmler tactics going on at Guantanamo.

I hope they give a reverse role option that you can play the capturers and your job is to prevent their escape or trail them to bring them back to justice!

Here's all you need to know:

It's the U.K. Europeans by and large already hold that opinion of Gitmo and hating the U.S. is the fashionable thing to do there anyway. I truly hope they need us to bail their asses out again in the future and that we wind up telling them all to go piss up a rope. Of course it won't happen - good ol' Uncle Sap will always be there to lend a helping hand, and will always be there to shit on again afterwards.

What I find hillarious was this “consultant” was found somewhere on the field of battle fighting American/coalition forces. He was fighting because he hates Western idealogy, right?

Evidently all of his ideals and beliefs get tossed aside when someone throws a bag of money at him to be a “consultant” for a video game.

Islamofascist sell out!
