Default Dale Lolley Update - Tony Hills info

http://nflfromthesidelines.blogspot.com/

Hills wants to make his move

I caught up with Tony Hills for a few minutes at OTAs and the second-year offensive tackle feels like he's ready to take a big step forward in his second training camp.

Hills and linebacker Bruce Davis were worked hard by head coach Mike Tomlin last year in training camp, with Tomlin taking a keen interest in both players. He'd line them up against each other time after time, telling them, "I'm going to make one of you a player."

Hills said he liked that pressure because if the head coach wasn't watching so closely, it meant he didn't care.

Hills said he has added five to 10 pounds of muscle to his frame and that his injury problems from college aren't even a distant thought in the back of his mind.

He's been working at both left and right tackle in OTAs and also saw time last year at guard on the scout teams. He feels like that experience will help keep him active on game days this year, citing Trai Essex's ability to play every position except center as a reference.

The Steelers will get a gift as they head into the final week of their OTAs, with the team receiving its Super Bowl rings Tuesday.

Another Blurb about Stefan Logan

Stefan Logan has the most lateral quickness I've seen since Antwaan Randle El. I would be concerned about his size and ability to take a hit - he's only 5-6 - but he has the skill to play in the NFL.

I said last year in preseason that Hills looked athletic enough to play LT, but blocked with his shoulders, not his arms, which indicated lack of strength and technique. I am really hoping he makes great progress this season, but in the end might just be the 2nd coming of Trai Essex.

I really hope he is the future LT, but think the Steelers really want to overpay Starks.

As for Logan, I would love to see him make the team, but dont know if there is any room for him in the crowded backfield.....or as a slot receiver. Keep 6WR's instead of 7 D linemen??

Please .... replace ... Starks ... next ... season.

I don't care if he's great, I don't care if he screws up once in a while (let's face it, Starks does that anyway), just please give us any sliver of an opening to get that overpaid, underachieving POS off the payroll.

I have to agre El-Gonzo with Hills adding some muscle to his frame maybe his blocking will improve this year.

I would also like to see Logan make the team but like you said they may not be enough room in the backfield.

As far as Logan goes, he's going to have to bust his ass to have a chance. I liked what I heard about him as a return guy and general wildcard speed burner ... but since we drafted Wallace and Burnett, it's going to be difficult to even get in the door that way. Especially since both of those guys are prospects at other positions where we could use some replenishment.

As much as I have been down on our drafts the last few years, Tomlin is doing a good job of turning around our special teams. I expect our return game will improve a good bit, and perhaps the the offensive line as well. Throw in a number 1 defense and a Superbowl Ring during this "rebuilding" period.......not to shabby.

I say we keep Tomlin for at least another year.

Tomlin probably signs a contract extension before training camp.

Of course Hills and Davis want to take a big step forward....every young player does but that doesn't mean they will. Let your play on the field do the talking
