Also, the Blue Jackets just re-signed their franchise player, Rick Nash, to an 8-year, $62.4 million deal, an average of $7.8 million per season.
Thats great for Rick Nash, he is one of my favorite players in the NHL. Columbus is definately a team on the rise and i wouldnt be surprised if they find themselves in the second round of the playoffs next year.

Did anyone mention the Kings trading for Avalanche winger Ryan Smyth?

No, but I did know about the trade. The Kings sent Kyle Quincey, Tom Preissing and a 5th round pick to the Avs for Smyth. At $6.5 million, I think Smyth is overpaid, but there's no question of this guy's heart and grit. I'd love to see him in the black and gold. This also kills any Jack Johnson trade talk - the Kings will re-sign him now.

I like Smyth also but feel he was overpaid and didnt contribute enough last year to a very depleted Avs team.

Pens sign Stars forward Cooper

The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed forward Chris Conner(notes) of the Dallas Stars to a one-year contract, team general manager Ray Shero announced Sunday.

The 5-8, 180-pound forward set new career highs with 13 points and 10 assists, while adding three goals and 10 penalty minutes in 38 games this past season. He also recorded 16 goals and 28 points along with 10 penalty minutes in 30 games with the Peoria Rivermen of the American Hockey League.

Conner was an undrafted free agent prior to signing with the Dallas Stars in 2005.

with Connor i dont see how we dont repeat, move out of the way Kunitz, Connor is coming for your spot!!!

Quite the boring offseason for the Pens, but i guess thats what happens when you win the cup, you just got to hang on to the majority or your players and you will be fine. Use to it with the Steelers, not the Penguins.

If i hadnt already traded in NHL 09 id say that it would be a waste to spend money to get NHL 10 since the roster will be just about the same but i know when September comes around i wont be able to resist

Things are going pretty much the way I expected. There's nothing that can be said for continuity and chemistry, and the team bringing back almost everyone from the playoffs can only be a good thing. I'd much rather be in this position than the other teams who are scrambling to buy up FAs or making blockbuster trades, hoping they will end up being where the Pens are right now.

Also, Francois Beauchemin has signed with the Leafs - 3 years, $10 million. Damn, that blueline up there is going to be tough as nails with him, Komisarek, Exelby and Luke Schenn. Too bad the rest of the team sucks.
