Why yet another defenseman? They already have GoGo ready to step in, and Alex Grant and Brian Strait aren't that far away from the show themselves. The Pens need potential top-6 winger depth - I'm not a fan of having to keep going out to find guys in FA to play with Sid and Geno. At some point they're going to have to promote from within, and other than Tangradi and possibly Caputi, they don't have anyone who really stands out.

NHL Draft: Penguins select Philip Samuelsson in 2nd round

MONTREAL -- The Penguins drafted defenseman Philip Samuelsson, son of Penguins alum Ulf Samuelsson, with their second-round selection in today's NHL entry draft.

Samuelsson is 6 foot 3, 198 pounds.

He had no goals and 22 assists in 54 games with Chicago of the United States Hockey League in 2008-09.

Samuelsson was claimed with the 61st choice in the draft; with the 63rd choice, they claimed a Ben Hanowski, a 6 foot 2, 198-pound winger from Little Falls, Minn.

Hanowski had 57 goals and 53 assists in 25 games with Little Falls High School, and will play at St. Cloud University this fall.

They said they were going BPA and Despres was definitely the best left. You never know 2-3 years from when he would be ready, Defense could be a need again. Our third rounder is the other is the highest point scorer in Minnesota HS history.
