I keep on hearing how the news says she bought the gun on Thursday, isn't she only 20 years old, you cant buy a handgun till your 21 how would they know she bought it if it was acquired illegally.

I believe TN law states you must be 18+ to purchase & possess a fire arm (not concealed carry though).

you need to be 21 to buy a pistol and 21 for a carriers permit. she was illegal and bought the 9 milli from an aquaintance for $100 bucks.

To purchase from a FFL (that's Federal Firearms License - dealers) - yes, you have to be 21, NOT from a private sale.
TN State law says18 is still legal to own handgun.
