Default Visiting the Burgh in 3 Weeks, Need Some Advice

Hey All,

Wife and kids and I are coming through Pittsburgh on the way to New York State. We are staying at the DoubleTree right downtown. Just wondering if there is anything I needed to know about the downtown area. (Usually when I come in for games I stay outside the city.) Places I definitely have to go, places to avoid and so on. Kids are 9 and 5 so I think we'll do the zoo and do the Heinz Field Tour too.

Thanks much in advance.

if youre looking at the tall buildings go to the PPG plaza. its really cool and they have the fountains go off about every hour. they let kids play in them (they'll love it if its a hot day, and theres a primantis right there for a cold one and some lunch.)

on the way to the zoo, up butler street, is the allegheny cemetary. its huge, really nice and definitely worth a drive through if youre into that sort of thing.

the andy warhol museum is a short walk across the bridge and a block or so. (a block east of PNC park, i think).

your kids might like the wholleys fish market (located on the strip). i always go in for a cod sandwich and see all the huge fish they got in the tanks.

the science center by the football stadium is pretty cool too.

minus the zoo and museum, you can really squeeze all that in one afternoon.

ppg plaza. my daughter and niece loved it. caution: must wear shoes when playing in the fountains.

my grandma used to let me swim in the fountain at the point but i believe it is still closed. since i am not actually from there, those are good times i will never forget.

Take the incline up to the top of Mt. Washington. Make sure you bring your camera.

Kennywood ought to be a good place to spend a day with the kids. They have good mix of rides and games for all ages. It's about a 15-20 minutes from downtown. The Carnegie Science Center is another nice place for the kids. I'd also recommend you check out the Western PA Sports Museum

Nice pics! The one captioned: "25" is a crazy optical illusion when you scroll through it with the mouse wheel

Ya gotta do the incline. Thats the first thing I did when I was there a few weeks ago and couldnt get over how awesome it was. The Science Center is cool as well.
