Jim Johnson passes
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on July 28, 2009 5:58 PM ET The Philadelphia Eagles announced Tuesday evening that longtime defensive coordinator Jim Johnson has passed away at the age of 68 after a battle with cancer. Johnson was hired as the Eagles defensive coordinator in 1999, and consistently led one of the most productive, aggressive, and inventive defenses during his ten-year tenure with the team. The Eagles announced three days ago that that Sean McDermott would take over as defensive coordinator and it was reportedly that Johnson's bout with cancer had taken a turn for the worse. Johnson spent 22 years as an NFL assistant, and will be remembered as one of the truly great assistants of his era. Johnson is survived by his wife, Vicky, two children, Scott and Michelle, and four grandchildren, Katie, Justin, Brandon, and Jax. PFT sends its thoughts and condolences to the Johnson family. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...ohnson-passes/ |

and to think he was coaching the eagles defense on a playoff run less than 7 months ago.
sean mcdermott said some very touching things about the coach when he was handed the reigns a few days ago. in retrospect it kinda tipped off how dire his situation had become (his was skin cancer) but i think to the public this is really out of the blue. condolences to his family, team and all the eagle fans. i know how we all would feel if it were dick lebeau. johnson was on that level and absolutely destroyed the steelers last year.
