Default Bengals starting TE - torn Achilles tendon?

GEORGETOWN, Ky. - The Bengals suffered what appears to be a devastating injury when tight end Reggie Kelly left practice with what some were calling a serious Achilles injury. A torn Achilles would end the season for one of their best blockers.

Kelly left the facility in a van with an ice bag strapped to his left foot.

The loss would be a terrific blow

Their only good blocking tight end just went down.

Probably anothe lazy guy that never trained in the offseason...........like Casey Hampton.

Too bad for Reggie. He's a good player.

Damn, I can hear the Bungal fans now:

"You only swept us and killed us on the scoreboard becuase Reggie Kelley was out!"

I feel bad for the dude though, you always hate to hear when someone gets a serious injury....unless it's Ray Lewis.

Bengals fans are unusually delusional this time of year, they probably think losing the TE is a blessin.

And their #1 draft pick Andre Smith isn't in camp yet either.

You remember him

It hurts because he was the best blocker we had who wasn't an O-lineman, but he was probably on the way out after this season anyway with him getting up in years and Chase Coffman having been recently drafted. Just means that Ben Utecht will have to stay healthy (fingers crossed) and Chase Coffman will need to pick things up a little quicker. It's a shame if it's as serious as it sounds though, Reggie's a real class act.

That is just nasty!!! Whoever told him to take off his shirt for the workout gave him some BAD ADVICE.

It's official....he's done.

Bengals TE Reggie Kelly is expected to miss all of 2009 after rupturing his Achilles' tendon in training camp Sunday.

Kelly already practiced in camp, so the Bengals can't place him on the PUP list. He'll have surgery Wednesday and go on injured reserve. Kelly's numbers never reflect it, but he's a difference maker in the passing game as a blocker. The Bengals need Daniel Coats to step up big time because Ben Utecht and rookie Chase Coffman are almost strictly receiving tight ends.
