Default Parking Ideas (Cheap)

This will be my 2nd gm, me and the Mrs. came last yr to the Opener (Texans) we stayed in a hotel that offered free ride to and from the gm. But this yr I'm bringing my son for the Dec. 20th gm vs Packers. I want to know where I can park without paying an arm and a leg I dont mind a little walk to save money. Also wondering what time they open up for parking I will be coming from my mothers house (Chambersburg) its about an 2 1/2 hr ride I think. So I know what time to leave. Thanks

P.S. I better pack me a jacket this yr last yr came in Sept. this yr coming in Dec. it will be a different atmosphere when it comes to the weather.

I posted this info in another thread (http://forums.steelersfever.com/showthread.php?t=38067)

It'd probably be easier and cheaper to do either of the following.

Park at Station Square and take the boats over n back ($10 for parking and $10 per person round trip on the boats).

Or park in the new Casinos parking garage for $20 (free if you show you gambled ANY amount in their casino), and just walk the block or 2 to the field.

There are a couple parking lots that are $25...but its first come first serve (http://www.alcoparking.com/stadium.html).

I'm sure there are various parking garages downtown/etc...but i do not know pricing/etc.

The first two are the best options unless you wanna pay a small fortune for a parking pass on ebay/etc.

I usually park downtown. It's only $5. I think if you really want to tailgate, you need to park in the areas closer to the stadium. Most of the $5 parking is in garages.

Here's a link for the official parking guide

I'm from out of town, and will be going to the opener on the 10th, my first home game at the stadium. I was thinking of either parking downtown, or at station square and taking the boats. Which is better?
And for the shuttle boats, what time do they start running before game time?

I've always parked at Station Square and never had a problem...if you dont mind waiting a little bit after the game to get on the boat...its easy as pie! One big thing you dont have to deal with is the traffic....when we park at station square, we just zip out the Wabash Tunnels and get back on the highway (heading towards the airport...as we live in ohio). As far as when they start the shuttle...not sure, I'm guessing though a little before the Heinz Field gates open, go to the Gateway Clipper website and see what you can find out. Unless you like walking, I'd do this...or park at the Casino as i mentioned above....but if you want a quick getaway from the parking lot, Station Square is best i think!

Yeah...it depends...if your the last person or what haha....usually if you leave the staidum once the clock hits 0:00 and head down its not that bad...especially when they load the big ol Majestic boat it holds a TON. But yeah I've waited 20-25 min or so before....just depends on the person n what they feel like doin haha.

Thanks guys, I found a rather cheap parking pass I'm watching on Ebay, because we'd like to tailgate... if that falls through I'm leaning towards the clipper idea. Just seems fun. And I'm from ny, so waiting 20-25 minutes for anything is a blessing compared to what I deal with on a regular basis up here in this hellhole haha.
