The Pittsburgh Steelers will play their third and most important preseason game of the summer Saturday against the Buffalo Bills.

Here are some things to look for:

* Saturday marks the return of Steelers starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger (Achilles) after a one-game hiatus. Roethlisberger had the back of his foot stepped on by left tackle Max Starks in practice and was forced to miss last week's exhibition against the Washington Redskins. Roethlisberger can use the work. After taking it light in the offseason, Roethlisberger has only made six pass attempts this entire preseason.

* Expect the Steelers to be very mindful of penalties against Buffalo. Pittsburgh committed 13 penalties last week in what was a sloppy game even by preseason standards. The first-team offense in particular committed a false start, intentional grounding and a holding penalty all in the first quarter alone in what probably drove the coaching staff crazy.

* Keep a close eye on the return game. CFL import Stefan Logan made perhaps the strongest case of any Steeler this summer with several stellar kick and punt returns against Washington. Logan is fighting for a roster spot and can come one spot closer to solidifying one with another round of quality returns against the Bills.

* Watching Pittsburgh's rookie class develop has been interesting. First-round pick Evander "Ziggy" Hood, third-round receiver Mike Wallace and rookie free agent Isaac Redman have all had their moments in the preseason. Hood, in particular, is leading the team with three sacks in the first two games. None of Pittsburgh's rookies are expected to start, but continued improvement in exhibition games could increase their roles when the real games begin in the regular season.

NO injuries - nothing else besides Logan looking good matters much.

There are a lot of things I'm going to be watching tomorrow night in addition to those mentioned above, and one of the biggest improvements I want to see is the reduction of penalties, as the article so states. 13 penalties, even in preseason, is totally unacceptable.
