Default Steelers cut 4

Stapleton on injured reserve; Steelers cut 4 others
Monday, August 31, 2009
By Ed Bouchette, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

The Steelers today placed offensive lineman Darnell Stapleton on injured reserve, ending his season. They also released four players: center Alex Stepanovich, wide receivers Martin Nance and Steven Black and safety Derrick Richardson.

Stapleton became their starting right guard last season after an early injury to Kendall Simmons. Stapleton moved over to center to start training camp when Justin Hartwig reported with a broken big toe.

However, one week into camp, Stapleton stopped practicing because of a knee problem. He had arthroscopic surgery to remove loose cartilage, which was supposed to sideline him for about three or four weeks.

Trai Essex, in the meantime, had taken over at right guard and Hartwig has since returned to assume his position at center.

I figured Nance was a goner. Someone will pick him up. Ravens, Titans need WRs. They can have our castoffs.

WOW OMG, NO WAY! haha....

nothing shocking there. And i think the titans are much better WR wise this year, they still have Gage/etc, and they add Nate and drafted Britt, i think they will be ok...they dont need anymore help! haha

With our depth at WR I knew that Nance and Black were gone...but thought they might make it to the second cut...Richardson surprised me a little...he was a stud in college and I thought there was an outside chance he might make the PS.

I forgot to consider the fact that Stapleton going on IR, would count as one of our cuts.

While I don't see anything glaring for the cuts, I am, however suprised at Stapleton to the IR. I thought they would keep him on the inactive until he could get back. This says to me either the injury was more serious than the "cleanup" reported, or Legursky played good enough for them not to hold that spot.

Sorry about your guy Tony. (Richardson) He really needed to get involved around the ball a lot more to show his "thump".

Huh, not really too surprising. Stepanovich looked terrible, and the other guys didn't do too much to distinguish themselves.

Interesting that Stapleton is on IR . . . I would guess this means that Foster has made it?
